Is Kant really the bourgeois philosopher that his advocates and opponents take him to be? In this bold and original re-thinking of Kant, Michael Wayne argues that with his aesthetic turn in the Third Critique, Kant broke significantly from the problematic philosophical structure of the Critique of Pure Reason. Through his philosophy of the aesthetic Kant begins to circumnavigate the dualities in his thought. In so doing he shows us today how the aesthetic is a powerful means for imagining our way past the apparent universality of contemporary capitalism. Here is an unfamiliar Kant his concepts of beauty and the sublime are reinterpreted as attempts to socialise the aesthetic while Wayne reconstructs the usually hidden genealogy between Kant and important Marxist concepts such as totality, dialectics, mediation and even production. In materialising Kants philosophy, this book simultaneously offers a Marxist defence of creativity and imagination grounded in our power to think metaphorically and in Kants concept of reflective judgment. Ik stop het stekkertje van de lader erin, wacht even en aai over de aan- en uitknop. NOKIA verschijnt er in het scherm. Hij leeft weer. Hij heeft het lef om god-verdomme gewoon weer aan te gaan. Ik zet mijn telefoon weer uit en ga op de grond zitten. Met mijn rug tegen de muur, naast een kastje. Hier heb ik nog nooit gezeten. Op deze plek in mijn huis heb ik nog nooit gezeten. Dora bekijkt het leven alsof het een film is die ze zelf regisseert en waar alles goed afloopt. Ze houdt van de Nederlandse taal en van gedichten, is dol op haar vrienden en verliefd op het Picassobeeld in het Vondelpark. Ze houdt van pannenkoekenetentjes, van de grote bek van haar vriendin Anniek en van onverwachte vakanties naar Legoland. Na een lange nacht vol eindeloze gesprekken fietst ze in een opwelling met haar vrienden naar het zwembad en belandt met Daaf in een douche. Ze zoenen en alles verandert. Daaf is niet de knapste, niet de stoerste maar Daaf en Dora passen als Duplo in elkaar. Ze zijn onafscheidelijk. Ze nemen samen een bijbaantje als tekstschrijver waardoor ze op begrafenissen terechtkomen van mensen zonder nabestaanden. Daaf en Dora fietsen week in week uit naar uitvaartdiensten van compleet vreemden, om deze onbekende mensen toch een laatste eer te bewijzen en een mooi afscheid te geven. Op de fiets naar huis maken ze plannen voor de toekomst. Op een dag staat ze achter een katheder zoals ze zo vaak heeft gedaan, maar alles is anders. De zaal zit vol bekenden en in de kist naast haar ligt Daaf. In de weken die volgen verliest Dora de grip op alles wat ze zo zorgvuldig met Daaf had opgebouwd. Vluchten is de enige optie, maar hoe moet je verdwijnen als het geluk onder de grond is begraven? Waar kun je heen als je nergens wilt zijn?Je blijft is een poetische, hartverscheurende roman over een onvoorwaardelijke liefde die niet onvoorwaardelijk blijkt te zijn. Recencie(s) Dora en Daaf, pas afgestudeerd en onafscheidelijk verliefd, hebben een uitzonderlijke bijbaan als tekstschrijvers verzorgen ze begrafenissen van mensen zonder nabestaanden. Maar langzaam dringt de dood ook Doras eigen leven binnen. Vluchten lijkt haar enige optie. Een dramatisch debuut van deze succesvolle actrice (onder meer bekend van Komt een vrouw bij de dokter). Het verhaal is zorgvuldig gecomponeerd in verschillende delen en flashbacks - elementen die de spanning verhogen. Daarnaast zijn er veel herkenbare, maar niet altijd even relevante, verwijzingen naar gedichten, muziek, tv-series en films uit de jaren 80 en 90. Stilistisch laat het verhaal nog wel iets te wensen over, want hoewel de droogkomische toon een mooi, luchtig contrast vormt met Doras emoties, doen de vele detaillistische beschrijvingen (van kleding tot interieur) geen recht aan de verbeeldingskracht van de lezer en halen ze de vaart uit het verhaal. Al met al wel een debuut dat nieuwsgierig maakt naar meer.
