Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. ---- Police released video Wednesday showing a man swinging a baseball bat at a police officer before being fatally shot outside a federal courthouse in southern Indiana.
Evansville police released security camera video showing 55-year-old Ricky Ard smashing two of the courthouse's front door windows Tuesday morning August 29 2017 , along with video from an officer's body camera .
The videos show at least two courthouse security officers drawing guns but not following Ard as he stayed outside the building and walked away. Other angles show him starting back toward the building after a city police officer arrived.
That officer, identified as 11-year police force veteran Kenny Duschke, yelled at Ard and tried to hit him with a stun gun before the black man charged at the officer with the bat. The video shows the officer backpedaling and firing about a half-dozen shots.
Evansville police spokesman Sgt. Jason Cullum said during a news conference that Duschke appears to have acted appropriately to defend himself.
"When he made the decision to chase after the officer and attempt to strike him with a deadly weapon, unfortunately, he created a situation that led to his death," Cullum said.
Cullum said Ard had visited the Winfield K. Denton Federal Building on Monday and expressed "concerns about the government." The building includes federal court offices and other federal agencies. Cullum declined Wednesday to discuss Ard's complaints.
Ard returned about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday to the courthouse in the city along the Ohio River, according to police.
Cullum said a courthouse security officer also shot at Ard, but videos didn't clearly show when that happened.
One of the security officers told Duschke to use a stun gun on Ard, but it was "ineffective," Cullum said.
"We know that one of the probes did make impact because as he ran after the officer you can actually see the Taser dragging on the ground behind him, because the probe was either in his clothes or in his person and the wires were still attached to the Taser," he said.

Deltona, Florida --- The Volusia Sheriff's Office has released footage, including body cameras, drone recordings, and a 911 call, detailing an incident that occurred on December 20, 2023. An armed shoplifting suspect, who initially fled from deputies and subsequently engaged in gunfire, inciting a prolonged standoff in Deltona, was safely taken into custody.
During the confrontation, one deputy sustained a grazing wound from the suspect's bullet, fortunately avoiding life-threatening injury. Additionally, another bullet struck a sergeant's ballistic shield, preventing further harm.
The incident began when deputies were called to the Wawa at 3400 Howland Blvd. following an employee's report around 4:30 a.m. of a regular customer shoplifting cigarettes by reaching over the counter. The suspect was reported to have a knife on his hip but did not brandish a gun.
As deputies arrived, the suspect drove toward one officer and attempted to evade another deputy who initiated a traffic stop. To halt the fleeing vehicle, a deputy deployed stop sticks, which deflated the driver’s side tires. Despite this, the suspect, identified as Dempsey Hadley (DOB 3/1/1967), continued driving at a reduced speed to his residence at 3230 Whitehorse Court.
Deputies performed a felony stop on the vehicle, but Hadley refused to comply with their commands and exit the vehicle. When deputies approached to remove him from the vehicle, Hadley opened fire.
Retreating for safety, deputies observed Hadley remaining inside the vehicle, adamantly refusing to exit. He was observed setting fires within the truck's cab.
Efforts were made to secure the safety of Hadley's son and a dog from his residence. Various resources were deployed, including negotiators, SWAT teams, K-9 units, drones, Air One, and Fire/EMS units staged nearby.
Using the VSO Bearcat vehicle, SWAT repositioned Hadley's truck, blocking any escape routes and pushing it into the garage. Hadley then exited the truck and entered the attic. Shortly after, visible smoke and subsequent flames engulfed the upper floors of the house.
Despite ongoing negotiations, Hadley persisted in his refusal to surrender. He emerged onto a second-floor balcony, prompting SWAT to utilize the VSO Rook and later a Bearcat boom to dismantle the balcony and safely bring Hadley to the ground, away from the burning residence.
After being apprehended on the ground, Hadley received on-scene treatment for his injuries before being transported to a local hospital. He faces charges including three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, and petit retail theft.

San Leandro Police Department - The San Leandro Police Department released bodycamera (2) phone footage, 911 call and Critical Incident Debriefing of an officer involved shooting that occurred on April 18, 2020 in San Leandro, California.
On April 18, 2020, about 3:12PM, San Leandro Police Officers responded to Walmart, located at 15555 Hesperian Boulevard, for a report of a man later identified as 33-year-old Steven Demarco Taylor brandishing a baseball bat inside the store. Upon their arrival, officers saw a man standing near the shopping cart storage bay holding a baseball bat. Officers approached the man and gave him commands to put down the bat. The man did not comply with the officers’ commands and instead walked towards the officers while still holding the bat. An officer discharged his taser, which was not effective, and the man continued walking towards the officers. Then, the officer used his service weapon, striking the man once in his upper torso. Seconds later, another officer discharged his taser at the man. Officers called for paramedics and provided first aid until they arrived. Despite life-saving measures, the man died from his injuries at the scene.
On April 20, 2020, the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau performed an autopsy on Mr. Taylor and the preliminary cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to his chest. Additionally, the Coroner’s Bureau confirmed that Taylor did not sustain any additional gunshot wounds to his head or back.

Fremont, California --- The Fremont Police Department released multiple body cameras, pictures, maos, animated videos of an officer involves in a fatal shooting that occurred on April 01-2021.
On Thursday, April 1, 2021, two Fremont Police Detectives were involved in an officer involved shooting. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Hyatt Place Hotel, located in the 3100 block of W. Warren Ave.
Since the beginning of 2021, Fremont has experienced a sharp increase in gun violence. In response, several units within the Department recently established a gun violence reduction team. Today, the team was surveilling a well-known suspect with several outstanding felony warrants who was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
At approximately 6:25 p.m., officers located the suspect, they attempted to make contact and take him into custody. When he refused to comply, a Fremont Police K9 was deployed. After the deployment of the K9, the suspect presented a firearm. During the confrontation two Fremont Police Detectives fired their service weapons at the Suspect:
Stephen Patrick Mosely
36 years old of Fremont.
Field trauma care was immediately provided to the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics at 6:35 p.m.

Killeen, TX (January 10, 2021): At approximately 5:29 p.m., Killeen Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Carrollton Avenue in reference to a 911 call in reference to a psychiatric call. Upon the officer’s arrival, he encountered an emotionally distressed man. The officer initially used his conducted energy weapon, which was ineffective, and then discharged his duty weapon during the encounter, striking the subject. The male was transported by paramedics to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and later succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by medical personnel and Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.
Killeen, TX (January 13, 2021): The deceased male has been identified as 52-year-old Patrick Lynn Warren, Sr. of Killeen.
The officer involved, Officer Reynaldo Contreras, is a 5-year veteran of the department. He remains on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
In addition to the investigation being conducted by the Texas Rangers, the Killeen Police Department is conducting a separate Internal Affairs investigation.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office
On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, just before 11 p.m., Deputy First Class Hobbs stopped a Dodge Challenger for traveling 126 miles per hour on Highway 400 North Bound.
During an impaired driver investigation, the driver, identified as 27-year-old Darrochino Cox of Atlanta, fled on foot behind Academy Sports located at The Collections at Forsyth.
As DFC Hobbs pursued, a white Lexus pulled into the area and attempted to pick up Cox but was unsuccessful and sped off striking the side of the building as it left.
Cox continued to flee on foot, back over the off-ramp and into the wood line between Highway 400 NB and the ramp.
Moments later he was apprehended.
During the search of Cox's vehicle, a felony amount of marijuana was located.
Darrochino Cox was charged with Reckless Driving, Speeding, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Driving Under the Influence, Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officer, Failure to Maintain Lane and Driving with an expired license.
He is currently in the Forsyth County Jail being held on a $37,350 bond.

On December 7, 2019, shortly after 12:30 p.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department Dispatch Center received 7 calls from citizens who were reporting a suspicious individual in the general area of Guerneville Road and Fulton Road. Several of the callers reported that the individual had a firearm and was pointing it at people and vehicles. Santa Rosa Police Department Officers responded to the area.
A Santa Rosa Police Department Officer located the individual on Guerneville Road west of Fulton Road. The suspect later identified as Joshua Oceguera, 24 was non-compliant and at one point brandished what the officer believed was a rifle. The officer fired 3 rounds from his department issued rifle. Oceguera then fled on foot westbound from the officer. The same officer chased after the suspect and tackled him to the ground a short distance later. The officer took Oceguera into custody.
The rounds fired by the officer did not strike the Oceguera, and no one was seriously injured during this incident. We later learned that the item the suspect had brandished was a black umbrella.
Officer Stephen Darden was the first of two officer to find the suspect, Officer Darden fired three rounds from his department-issued rifle after he said Oceguera pointed the umbrella at him mimicking shooting with the recoil effect. Officer realized it was not a firearm but an umbrella only after After Oceguera pointed it at him, and than he opened it up. This part was not recorded because officer didn't activated the body camera. Officer than ran toward Oceguera behind him, tackled him and put him in custody.
Oceguera was arrested after the shooting but later released from jail. He was charged with brandishing an imitation firearm and exhibiting a deadly weapon.

The El Paso Police Department released body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that happened at a car wash in El Paso Texas on March 5, 2024.
Police did not provide much information other than the incident began at around 1:08 a.m. when a supervisor while on active Patrol
approached a vehicle parked at a car wash located on the 5800 block of Donathan. The officer made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Anthony Estrada who was seated in the driver's seat of the vehicle.
The officer tells the man, who is sitting in his car, to get out of his car and to relax. The officer also asks the man to tell him what he had in his hand several times and then asks him to see his hand several more times. At one point, the man, who identified himself as Michael Estrada, said he had a gun.
The man also asked the officer several times, “Do you want to go home tonight?”
The officer is then shown firing his weapon multiple times.
Police said that Patrol supervisor notified shots were fired and requested emergency
backup. Responding units arrived within minutes and took the suspect into custody.
Fire Medical Services declared estra dead at the scene, police said.
The patrol supervisor involved is a 12-year and 11-month veteran police
Sergeant.
The mother of Estrada said the police told her they found a gun in his car.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department re;eased body cameras (3) of Lancaster Station
deputy-involved shooting that occurred on December 4, 2023.
On December 4, 2023, at 6:08 p.m., Lancaster Station deputies responded to an
apartment in the 2100 block of East Avenue J-8 in the city of Lancaster, regarding a
domestic violence call. A female called 9-1-1 and reported that her boyfriend would not
leave her alone and then screaming and sounds of a struggle could be heard. The
female was later identified as 27-year-old Niani Finlayson of Lancaster.
Upon arrival, deputies approached the apartment's front door, where they heard heated arguments and yelling inside. While attempting to gain entry, a female adult opened the door wielding a large kitchen knife.
Finlayson told deputies she was going to stab her boyfriend for pushing her daughter.
She then retreated back into the apartment toward her boyfriend.
As deputies entered,Finlayson,bstill armed with the knife, grabbed her boyfriend an apparent attempt to stab him, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Gunfire struck Finlayson, causing her to fall and drop the weapon. Deputies provided immediate first aid until Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived and continued medical assistance. Despite efforts, Finlayson was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a local hospital.
An approximately eight-inch bladed kitchen knife was recovered at the scene.
Finlayson 's boyfriend became combative after the deputy-Involved Shooting and was subsequently
arrested for child abuse and assault on a peace officer.
He was later released from custody pending further investigation.
