Live Stream! Testing out video capture from Oculus Rift while flying DCS World!
Tonight I needed a break from 3D printers and wanted to see if I could do a decent video capture/live stream from my Oculus Rift while flying in DCS World. With the VR being amazing from my perspective in the Rift, I wanted to see how well that would translate into 2D for you, the viewer!
I used Oculus Mirror and StreamLabs OBS to capture my Oculus Rift view to 1920 x 1080.
I think the video came out a little too jittery...but this was a first try!
(This was a recorded LIVE vLog!) It's been a little while since I put out a video and I figured a LIVE VLOG might be a nice way to show you guys what I have been working on and what's coming up in the next few weeks! AND....I enjoy interacting and hearing from you! Be sure to watch, Subscribe and if you can, support me on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/wherenerdyiscool
As you can see I have been very busy trying out some new filaments, new upgrades have arrived for the 3D printers I have and improved parts for the upcoming FolgerTech I3 Mega build!
Among the list of stuff...
Improved Z screws for the Folgertech FT-i3 Mega, sent by John Folger! (He also included new STLs for the new parts needed for it)
U.S. Monofilaments - Clear 1.75mm High Temp NatureWorks High Heat Grade Sent over by John Folger. (This stuff is made in the USA, in Vermont!)
Matterhackers Pro Series PETG (a little disappointed not much info on the spool or in the box for print settings)
E3Dv6 hot ends for upgrading the CR-10S (12v vesion of E3Dv6) and the Tevo Tornado (24v version of E3Dv6)
ColorFabb HT, "High Temp". Looks interesting for printing some of the mounting parts for the E3Dv6 pieces (mount, part cooling duct, etc)
Polymaker Polywood PLA Filament. Imitation wood filament with no wood fiber in it! Still fine tuning the print settings!
ZYLTech PLA and PETG filaments. Amazing low price, I have to try it out!
MattForge, low gloss, matte PLA filament....really interesting stuff! So far, I am really impressed with matteforge.
...and more chit chat with those on the live stream chat!

Today I am giving my review on a very unique PLA blend, Polyalchemy Elixir PLA. I bought a spool for my Ultimaker 2+ 3D Printer, which uses 2.85 mm filament and a 1.75 mm spool for my other printers. It takes a little experimentation to dial in the right settings for this filament but once you do so, the results are simply amazing! Layer lines seem to vanish and the finish is smooth and shiny! I have been really impressed with this PLA and in the video, I show off some of the prints I have done and some tips on how to print with this filament!
I bought mine at PrintedSolid.com !

This time I and showing you one of the more complicated and even exotic filaments in my collection! ColorFabb XT-CF20 gives a beautiful finish but like many Carbon Fiber Filaments, can be complicated!
CNC Kitchen did a fantastic, very detailed review on this filament a while ago. Check it out!
https://youtu.be/LTmuwfyYUJQ
Be mindful of the safety concerns CNC Kitchen mentions, as safety should always come first!
I used an Olsson Ruby on my Ultimaker 2+ as CF filaments are very abrasive and will wear away a standard brass nozzle!
I used Simplify3D to create my profile. (I keep trying the latest versions of Cura, only to encounter problems, so I have given up for now)
Test print simple shapes as you fine tune your settings. I found that for the first layer, 254C was good and then 250C for every layer after. I used 70C bed temp and 25% cooling fan since it dries quickly.
The material likes to cover the nozzle and create blogs. Once you find the right settings, retraction can be fine tuned.
This is a good calibration cube I like to use

It's a lot of work to make work well but the matte finish is gorgeous!

Here's my AFTER THE UPLOAD video I do a day or two after I upload a new video to the channel. I create these for my PATREON page so that people who help me out get that bonus video! In AFTER THE UPLOAD I tell you about the early reactions to the latest video, offer my feedback, some behind the scenes fun and sometimes scenes that got clipped, usually for time, from the original video!
I'm posting this one free for everyone to see so you can sample what AFTER THE UPLOAD is all about!
In this episode, I'm talking about the reaction and comments about the Installing the EZABL Sensor video.
