Aunt Molly Jackson - Texas Rangers
https://dla.acaweb.org/
The original "pistol packing mama," Aunt Molly Jackson, native of Clay Co.unty, Kentucky. Her union activities first got her thrown in jail at the age of 10, and when she officially joined the UMWA around 1920, she was already well-known for her protest songs like "Ragged and Dirty," "Hungry Disgusted Blues," and "Poor Miner's Farewell." Not long after testifying to the Dreiser Committee on the brutal conditions facing striking miners and their families in "Bloody Harlan" in 1931, she relocated to Connecticut and then to New York City, where her songs and stories were extensively recorded by both John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax, between 1935 and 1939. Listen to her recordings at https://lomaxky.omeka.net/
