Can Asian American Politics Earn a Place in the Black Freedom Struggle?
As we've seen everything from the random punching of a 75 year old Asian woman in the face in San Francisco, to the murder of 8 (6 Asian women)in Atlanta. How do we on the left view what is a just outcome for these perpetrators of violence?
In the aftermath of the George Floyd protests of the summer do we actually need more law enforcement to help stop these horrible acts from occurring?
Will the backlash we see after this incident in Atlanta be similar to what we saw in Los Angeles in the Karen Toshima murder in 1988? Is there an element of foundation types and lawyers that use situations like this, to brand a #hashtag and advance a career?
We'll be asking these questions and more with the usual Saturday Crüe of Jason, Pascal, Marcus and Paul. Coming to chat with us will be Dr. Sora Han. Dr. Han is the Associate Professor, Criminology, Law & Society School of Social Ecology.

Zero Books Manifesto:
The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.

Many on the left are quite sure that the Cancel Culture concept is a dubious one. They're positive that it is just a right-wing talking point that deserves to be debunked or ignored. In this video Ben Burgis argues the opposite while attempting to give a clear definition of the concept that the left can use to move beyond the tactic as we develop better strategies for social change.

The 1987 film Dirty Dancing is the very definition of a cultural, and one might add a surprise, phenomenon. A box office taking of $10 million dollars by the film's 10th day on screen. $170 million worldwide from a production budget of just $6 million. the film still to this to this day rakes up a million DVD sales per year. Dirty Dancing is perhaps the epitome of the so called 'Chick Flick' Yet the film has some serious social themes working under its flaying skirt. Politics of class, the failings of liberalism in sixties America and beyond, abortion, courting and sex out of wedlock, the collapse of the nuclear family unit, and all this set against a generational shift that was imminent in the year of the films setting, 1963. Take away the euphoric Dancing, and all that is left is dingy and Dirty. -Stephen Lee Naish

In this interview, Kenny Novis speaks with the historian Aaron Leonard about his latest book, Whole World in an Uproar: Music, Rebellion and Repression 1955-1972. This book deals with the radical history of American folk music during the cold war, as well as the ways in which radical folk singers were repressed by various institutions, including not only the FBI, but also the press and radio. In their discussion, Kenny and Aaron review some of the key themes of the book, including how the nature of political music shifted across the 40s-50s, the place of famous musicians in the resistance to the Vietnam war (including Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Phil Ochs, and more), and the broader relation between art and revolutionary politics.

In this video, Douglas Lain mansplains to MK Hobson about what the future of the abortion debate will look like and quotes an excerpt from Victoria Margree’s book “Neglected or Misunderstood: The Radical Feminism of Shulamith Firestone” in order to prove his point.
Addendum: This video omitted the fact that transmen also have to struggle for their reproductive rights. That was an oversight and we're adding this addendum in order to correct the mistake.

Ben Burgis responds to objections from a fan of Austrian Economics named Gene Epstein in this video recap of a debate between Gene and Ben on the Part of the Problem podcast. Should worker’s forego political organizing and use crowdsourcing to implement a hostile takeover of capitalism itself? Will socialism undo the freedoms we enjoy today? Are boycotts enough?
