After meeting the legendary Pokémon at the Burned Tower, they will roam all over the Johto region. If you encounter one of them, a page to your Pokédex will be added. Raikou is on Level 40. A roaming legendary will flee on the first turn. Any Pokémon like Gengar for example that knows Mean Look can prevent wild Pokémon from escaping battle. Even if the roaming opponent can’t flee, be careful as it can use Roar to force your Pokémon to flee. Try using a combo with Mean Look and Hypnosis then use Ultra Balls. If you have a Master Ball, you can snag the roaming legendary with ease.

On Cinnabar Island, get the Secret Key from the Pokémon Mansion then use it to access the gym. This gym has a puzzle with computers giving you a quiz to answer questions. If you guess a question correct, you’ll open the door to the next spot with the next computer quiz. If you guess a question wrong, you’ll be forced to battle a trainer. Beat the trainer for the door to open. After all shutters open, you’ll take on the gym leader. Blaine uses Fire type Pokémon. When Ponyta and Rapidash use Fire Spin, you can’t move as the move repeats itself for 2-5 turns. Their Stomp attack has a 30% chance of making targets flinch. Outside the desert by the Relic Castle, give a Rage Candy Bar to a Zen Statue. When you do, the statue will awaken to reveal Darmanitan. This special Darmanitan is on Level 35. Unlike other Darmanitan, this one has a special ability called Zen Mode. If its HP is half or less, it will change into a Zen Statue and add a Psychic type. The Zen Statue form trades the Attack and Special Attack stats plus increases the Defense and Special Defense stats but lowers the Speed stat. If you don’t like this type of Darmanitan, just stick with the ones with the Sheer Force ability.

In basement 3 of the Chaos Shrine in the past, you’ll encounter Kraken by a nearby stairway. For this battle, Kraken’s stats are a little higher than the previous battle. It will spray some ink to blind your fighters, making them less likely to land attacks successfully. In addition, Kraken will unleash some lightning as part of its new moveset. Spells that give your team more evasion and protection would be recommended to avoid being blinded by the ink. After the battle, continue your exploration.

In this level, you’ll take a pipe to go underground. There are 2 Goombas under a set of item blocks at the beginning. Between sets of hard walls is a garbage block containing multiple coins. Go by some Koopas and Goombas then you’ll see Piranha Plants lurking from the pipes. Go down one of the pipes to enter a bonus room for more coins. Go back up and you’ll see 2 Goombas coming down the stairway. Between platforms going up and down is a landing with a red Koopa. Unlike the green ones, the red Koopas don’t fall off edges. If you go above the ceiling, you’ll enter the Warp Zone that has pipes to go to Worlds 2, 3, and 4. If you stay on the ground, go through the pipe by the wall to return to the surface and climb the big stairway to reach the flagpole.
