All commentators agree that the time of his descent was Mecca. And by considering its subject and style of narration, it is felt that this is also one of the Surahs revealed in the early period of Makkah.
Topic and subject:
It condemns some of the moral evils which were found in the society of Jahiliyyah among the wealthy, which every Arab knew that these evils actually existed in his society, and which were considered evil by all. No one thought that these were qualities. After presenting this abominable character, it has been told what will be the fate of those who have this character in the Hereafter. Both these things (i.e. this character on the one hand and his end in the Hereafter on the other) are described in such a way that the listener's mind automatically comes to the conclusion that this should be the end of such a character, and Since such characters do not receive any punishment in this world, rather they are seen flourishing, so the emergence of the Hereafter is absolutely inevitable.
If this surah is seen in the continuity of the surahs that have continued from Surah Zalzal till now, then one can understand very well how the beliefs of Islam and its moral teachings in the early period of Makkah. was brought to the attention of the people. It was mentioned in Surah Zalzal that in the Hereafter, the entire record of a person's deeds will be placed in front of him and there will not be even an iota of good or evil that he has done in this world that will not come before him there. In Surah Al-Adiyat alluding to the looting, bloodshed and looting that had taken place everywhere in Arabia, then after realizing that this use of God-given powers was very ungrateful to Him, the people It was told that the matter will not end in this world, but in the next life after death, not only your actions, but also your intentions will be scrutinized and your Lord knows best which person deserves what treatment. . After presenting the map of the Day of Judgment in Surah Qara'a, people were warned that the good or bad end of a person in the Hereafter will depend on whether the burden of his good deeds is heavy or light. In Surah Takhar, this materialistic mentality is captured, due to which people are only trying to get more and more of worldly benefits and pleasures and luxury and status and to surpass each other until they die. Then people were informed about the bad end of this negligence and told that this world is not a treasure that you can touch it as much and as you want, but you have to pay for each and every blessing that you are getting here. The Lord will have to answer how you got it, and how you used it after getting it.

"Noah" is the name of this surah and also the title of its article, because it tells the story of Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) from the beginning to the end.
Time of descent:
This is also one of the surahs revealed in the early period of Makkah, but the internal testimony of its text indicates that it was revealed during the time when the infidels of Makkah opposed the invitation and preaching of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The opposition had gained considerable intensity.
Topic and subject:
In it, the story of Prophet Noah (a.s.) has not been narrated for the sake of telling a story, rather, it is intended to warn the disbelievers of Makkah that you are taking the same attitude towards Muhammad (peace be upon him) that his people did to Noah (a.s.). and if you do not stop from this behavior, you will also have to face the same fate as these people saw. This is not stated in clear words anywhere in the whole surah, but in the context of the occasion and the circumstances in which this story was narrated to the people of Makkah, this article automatically stands out from it.
In the first verse, it has been mentioned that when Hazrat Noah (a.s.) was assigned to the post of Prophet by Allah, what service was entrusted to him?
In verse 2-4 it is briefly mentioned how he started his da'wah and what he presented to the people of his nation. Then, after taking the trouble of calling and preaching for a long time, the prayer that Hazrat Noah (a.s.) presented before his Lord is described in verses 5-20. In it, he mentions how he tried to bring his nation to the right path and how stubbornly the nation resisted him.
After that, the last request of Hazrat Nuh (as) is recorded in verses 21-24 in which he asks his Lord that this nation has definitely rejected my word, he gave his nickels in the hands of his nobles. has given, and they have spread a huge trap of mischief, now the time has come to take away guidance from these people. This was not a show of impatience on the part of Hazrat Nuh (A.S.), but after performing the duty of preaching under extremely trying conditions for centuries, when he was completely disappointed with his people, he formed this opinion.

The whole text of the surah indicates that this is also one of the early revealed surahs, but this was the time when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had started public preaching and the people of Makkah generally listened to it and ignored it. had been .

In order to understand its subject, it should be kept in mind that in the early times, the preaching of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mostly focused on making people aware of two things. One is monotheism, the other is the hereafter. And the people of Makkah were refusing to accept these two things. After understanding this background, now consider the subject and style of this Surah.
First of all, in order to shock the people lying in neglect, this question has been suddenly presented to them: Do you have any information about the time when a calamity will be revealed that will cover the whole world? Immediately after this, it has been described in detail that at that time all human beings will be divided into two different groups and will see two different ends. One is those who will go to hell and will have to suffer such and such severe punishment. Others are those who will go to the highest place in heaven and they will have such and such blessings.
In this way, after shocking people, the entire subject is changed and the question is asked whether these people who are turning up their noses after listening to the Qur'an's teaching of monotheism and the news of the Hereafter, do not see the things in front of them that they are always facing. Do they experience the former? In the desert of Arabia, the camels on which their whole life depends, never do these people consider how they became exactly the same characteristics as the animals needed for their desert life. In their travels, when they walk, they see either the sky, or the mountains, or the earth. Consider these three things. How did this sky cover above? How did these mountains stand in front? How was this land laid down? Has all this happened without the work of an almighty creator? If they believe that one Creator has created these things with great wisdom and great power, and no one else is involved in their creation, then why do they refuse to accept Him as the only Lord? And if they believe that God was able to create all these things, then what reasonable argument do they have to believe that God is also able to bring about the resurrection? Able to regenerate humans? He is also able to create heaven and hell.
After explaining the matter with this short and very reasonable reasoning, the disbelievers turn their backs and address the Prophet ﷺ and he is told that if these people do not believe, then do not believe, you have not imposed upon them by forcing them. Have you gone to forcefully persuade them to leave? Your job is to advise, so be advised. After all, it is up to us to make them come. At that time, We will take full account from them and punish those who do not believe heavily.
