It seems like The White House didn’t get the memo that their president is senile. Just today, he seemed to forget the Prime Minister of Australia’s name. And Number 5: Vaccine Passports, the most stupid idea to be concocted by modern-day humans. The idea is that if you have been vaccinated against covid, you are entitled to have more freedoms than those who are not vaccinated. The only issue with this, apart from it being a huge breach of human rights, is that it simply doesn’t work. Anyway, that’s the end of Stupid Files #1. I’m sure that in the not-too-distant future, I will be making Stupid Files #2. There’s certainly plenty of stupidity in the world!

The Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison has certainly done lots of crazy things in his time. For example, back in 2017 as Treasurer, he decided to pull out a lump of coal during during Parliament Question Time to make some sort of smart-arse point about job security and sustainable energy in Australia. But what has he done since becoming PM back in May when he came back from the brink of certain failure and won the Australian Federal Election? In this video as a wrap-up to 2019, I decided to search Google News for the top Scott Morrison articles, one from each month of the year. It turns out that Mr Morrison’s coal-wielding antics might just be coming back to bite him.

In this video, I’m not stating my opinion. I’m just making a couple of observations about mask use and asking one important question.

Recently in Australia, there are calls by the government and the mass media for people to start wearing face masks again. They haven’t gone as far as mandating them, but lots of people are calling for mandates. Despite calls from the state premiers for people to mask up, the public are mostly not listening. At my children’s school in Queensland, I would say that only about 10% or less of students and staff wear masks. The same is probably true out in public. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wants MPs to wear masks in parliament but won’t support mandates. One of the reasons for this is concerns for mental health, “There are two things at play. One is mental health considerations. The imposition of controls on people’s behaviours has an impact of people’s health, that’s just a reality. Particularly young people, we’re seeing an increasing problematic increase in incidents of severe consequence when it comes to young people’s health”. The second reason was due to the large take up of vaccinations, as well as the introduction of anti-viral treatments. He even noted that not a single state premier backed mask mandates at national cabinet. But the howl from the media continues. The reason is always the same – If only everyone wore masks, then we’d be able to limit the spread and everything would be hunky-dory. But I’d just to make one observation in the form of a question: What happened to Japan?
Japan is currently experiencing a record surge in case numbers. I’ve visited Japan many times, and have lived and worked there for a number of years. Mask use was always a common sighting well before this pandemic. People wore them when they had colds, or even when they had hay fever. Throughout this pandemic, I would estimate that close to 100% of Japanese have been wearing masks. Even when the government last month asked them not to wear masks outside, they continued to wear them. There have been multiple cases of children who wore masks during gym classes being sent to hospital due to heat exhaustion or heatstroke. People have been passing out because of continued mask use during intense exercise. The point is, Japan is a fully-masked society.
And here’s my question: Why then are Japan currently experiencing the biggest rise in cases ever? In Australia, the general consensus is that if we just all wore masks, everything would go back to normal. But Japan statistics seem to indicate the opposite. Essentially 100% mask usage, but record case numbers. But it’s not just Japan, it’s Singapore too.
Here’s Australia’s recent spike in cases. And here’s Singapore, noting that these are in cases per million people. Singapore is notoriously masked-up, I know, I’ve had friends visit their recently. Yes, you could argue that both Singapore and Japan have much higher population densities than Australia, but let’s be fair, more than 85% of Australians live in big cities. Despite it’s mask mandates, New Zealand is experiencing just as much of a surge in cases as Australia, even more so. Even the ABC are questioning what’s going on in today’s news, “New Zealand has mask mandates and isolation, but the Omicron daily death rate is still ‘very concerning’”. But yet, the Australian media are still calling for mask mandates as if masks are some sort of panacea.
What do you think? Masks work, right? So what’s going on in Japan?

You’re the Voice! Um… NO! Anthony “Vote YES” Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, has made it his mission to convince you to vote Yes in the upcoming Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum. Tens of millions of dollars has been spent on advertising to try to make you vote Yes (not tax payers’ money, Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney assures us). But the latest addition to the Yes campaign is a song from a 74-year-old British-born, former mullet-wearing pop singer, John Farnham, who has apparently gifted his song “You’re the Voice”, to the Yes campaign. Apparently, Australians are so easily persuaded, the simple inclusion of a song will make us change our vote.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not buying it. I don’t think Australians are so easily manipulated, are they? Well, I’m certainly not. It might be a good song. It might have some catchy lyrics, but it doesn’t change what we’re voting for. Some commentators have pointed out that the first line of the chorus is an apt description of the upcoming Voice, “You’re the voice, try and understand it”, in that, many voters still don’t know what exactly this Voice will entail. For me, what we’re voting on is very clear: The inclusion of a federal advisory body that can only be made up of people from a particular ethnicity. And that just sounds wrong to me. You don’t eliminate racism by excluding 96% of Australians because they don’t happen to have the appropriate ethnicity.
According to the Voice website, “The Voice will be chosen by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people based on the wishes of local communities”, and, “The Voice will be accountable and transparent”. That’s interesting, because the Guardian is reporting this week, “Albanese government accused of ‘blatant hypocrisy’ as more than 2,000 Senate questions go unanswered. So are we just supposed to have faith that the Voice will live up to its transparency promises as well?

Not only has Johnny Farnham been raked in in an attempt to sway your vote, so have many big Australian companies who are also calling on you to vote Yes. Qantas have famously stuck Yes23 badges on their planes publicly affirming their support. For some strange reason, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has since departed, not on a plane, but he did suddenly quit Qantas. According to Aviation Australia, flight crew have been seen celebrating with high fives after learning the fateful news, with hero pilot Captain Richard de Crespigny describing a “collapse of the brand” under Mr Joyce.

It was Harmony Day yesterday, a time to celebrate Australia’s rich cultural diversity. As my wife is Chinese, my daughter wanted to wear a Chinese dress to school, which she did, but despite my son’s school trying to bribe the student population with ice blocks to wear orange or dress up in cultural garb, he wasn’t having a bar of it and went dressed in school uniform. Fair enough. Of course, I support both my children’s views. If people want to dress up, fine, but equally, if they don’t want to celebrate Harmony Day, they shouldn’t be forced to.
On paper, Harmony Day or Harmony Week or whatever, is a feel-good exercise “to recognise diversity and inclusion in Australia”. Personally, it’s not my cup of tea — a bit too trite for my liking — but I appreciate that people want to celebrate it. However, there are certain segments of the Progressive Left, or the Woke Left, who don’t like the positive message that it sends, and want to take the Harmony out of Harmony Day.
Case in point, the Australian Greens. The once environmentally-focused party has now firmly attached itself to to the Woke Left, its politics demanding, no, requiring authoritarianism to work. Here’s their page on Harmony Day, “Addressing the Harm Must Be Part of Celebrating Harmony”. They state, “Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In Australia, this day has been rebranded to Harmony Day. Rebranding the day might make us feel positive and comfortable, but does not actively encourage conversations about racism.” You see, the Greens don’t want to focus on harmony, they want us to focus on racism. I sometimes think that if it wasn’t for their ideological obsession with racism, they would no longer exist.
Here’s an article from taxpayer-funded SBS, “Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi says Harmony Week ignores the lived reality of racism.” Oh yes, “Feminist. Engineer. Migrant.”, Dr Mehreen Faruqi struggles everyday with racism on her senators salary. I believe it’s around $217,000 now. Australia is such a racist country that it only gives a poor migrant such a meagre salary.
Sorry, I got a bit sidetracked there. The article is called, “Australia’s ‘superficial, white-washed’ Harmony Week must be dumped, Greens say. The Greens are calling for what it says are ‘hollow’ Harmony Week celebrations to be dumped in favour of Anti-racism Week.” Yes, we can’t be seen to be celebrating harmony. The focus must be on racism!
Of course, our public broadcaster the ABC got on board, “Calls to ditch Harmony Day amid accusations it 'whitewashes historic and ongoing racism' in Australia”. Sorry, that was from last year, but you get the message, “Mehreen Faruqi wants Australia to no longer use the term Harmony Day.” Well guess what Dr Faruqi, you don’t have to. Just as my 12-year-old son doesn’t want to celebrate Harmony Day, nor do you. It’s a free country.
Look, you can celebrate whatever holiday you like. I don’t mind. But what I take issue with, and I think many Australians would agree with me, is when you try to force us to celebrate, or not celebrate a particular day, that’s where I draw the line. As I said, the Extreme Left require authoritarianism. If they just asked us to change Harmony Day, or Australia Day, or Christmas, we would just ignore them. The only way they can get their wish, is if they force us. And I’m not having it.

Even people like moral philosopher Peter Singer have used this analogy stating that there is nothing unethical about segregating unvaccinated people. In his piece titled, “Why vaccination should be like wearing a seat belt – compulsory”, he wrote, “Rules requiring that people going to cinemas, bars, or travelling on a train show proof of vaccination are not a violation of anyone’s freedom”. Sorry Professor Singer, I’ll have to disagree with you on that one. In this presentation, I’ll show that comparing seat belts with vaccines is like comparing apples with spaceships. They are so obviously different.
Seat Belts vs Vaccines.
1. Seat belts are a temporary protection. Vaccines are a permanent (or at least, semi-permanent) biological change. When I hop in my car, I put my seat belt on. When I get out, I take it off. I don’t have to permanently have a seat belt wrapped around me all day long. The same can’t be said for vaccines. Once it’s in my body, it’s in my body. If you believe that vaccines grant you long-lasting immunity, then you also must believe that they are permanently altering your innate biological state.
2. I can choose to avoid seat belts. Not always, but if I really don’t like wearing seat belts, there are other modes of transport that I can use that don’t require them. Walking, cycling, trains. I can choose to walk to work and my boss isn’t going to say anything, but if I choose to go to work unvaccinated… Well, that leads us to,
3. There are no seat belt passports, check ins, proof of seat belt usage certificates, etc. With vaccine mandates, you can be refused entry to a bar or cinema. You can even lose your job if you are unvaccinated! But have we ever had such a thing with seat belts? No. I can walk into the bar and nobody’s going to ask me to prove that I wore a seat belt on the way to the bar. Such a notion would be ludicrous. I can walk to work without wearing a seat belt, and I’ll still have my job. Heck, I could even drive to work without wearing a seat belt and I would still have my job.
4. The act of putting on a seat belt will never harm or kill anyone (although it might contribute to harm during a crash). The physical action of buckling up a seat belt isn’t going to harm me. The same can’t be said about a vaccine. Sure, fatal vaccine side effects might be very rare, but they exist. If you force somebody to do something against their will and they die, that’s on you. There’s one delusion that we seem to accept in society. We not only accept it, we actively encourage it, we enable it, we provide opportunities for people to act out their fantasy. But you’re not allowed to speak out against it. I’m not even going to mention the disorder here, because it’s so politically charged.
Anorexia Nervosa is a psychiatric disease that we are all probably familiar with. I’ve known people who’ve had this condition, and it’s certainly very serious. It involves a profound dissatisfaction with one’s body. Despite being dangerously underweight, many sufferers still see themselves as overweight or even obese. But society understands that this is a delusion. It’s a mental disorder where the person has a distorted mental image of their body. It doesn’t match reality. Yet, we would never recommend weight-loss surgery to these people to help with their body image. Physicians who go along with such irrational beliefs, by offering liposuction for example, would be up for medical malpractice or malfeasance.
People with Body Integrity Dysphoria, a very rare mental illness where there is a mismatch between a person’s mental body image and their physical appearance, characterised by an intense desire for amputation or paralysis of a limb, or to become deaf, or even blind. Should surgeons willingly go along with this delusion and help the person become blind, or disabled? That would surely be immoral, and rightfully so. Instead, Body Integrity Dysphoria is treated as a psychiatric illness, as it should be.
Schizophrenia, a chronic mental disorder involving delusions and hallucinations, with some people believing that aliens are trying to poison them. Should we go along with their delusions and help them stop the aliens? Of course not. It’s not real. It’s a disservice to pretend that their hallucinations are real. Instead we treat it as a serious mental disorder.
I am actively employed at a university that is giving people the opportunity to receive permanent, life-altering, often irreversible surgery and other procedures in order for the their physical body to match their spurious mental body image. If you read about it in a book, it would read like some kind of Frankenstein experiment. Surgeons claiming they can change people’s biological identity. But it turns out no amount of cosmetic surgery can effect a biological change. To pretend otherwise is a masquerade. Many individuals who undergo this surgery realise that it doesn’t deliver the serenity they were once promised. Depression and anxiety, among other things, continue. But yet as a society, we have somehow allowed this cultural delusion. It seems like we have learnt nothing from the disasters of previous attempts to treat mental illness with surgery, for example, prefrontal lobotomy. This barbaric procedure was responsible for at least 490 deaths and left thousands of people in a vegetative state. Sadly, in many cases, that was believed to be an improvement in the lives of many mentally ill people as they were now easier to take care of. Thankfully, this horrible procedure has since been discredited, although at the time it was considered the apex of neurosurgical intervention.
Unfortunately, the follies and foolishness of humankind are historically not uncommon. Epidemics of irrational groupthink are well-documented. Witch hunts have been a fairly commonplace practice throughout human history. Simply being labelled a witch was often enough evidence of witchcraft punishable in the most horrendous ways. The authorities at the time honestly thought they were doing a moral good.
Alchemy, the attempt to change base metals such as lead or copper into silver or gold, and to discover cures for disease, or elixirs of immortality. The idea is considered ludicrous to the modern mind, but at the time was considered the peak of scientific research and discovery. Actually, the transmutation of base substances into gold is now known to be impossible by chemical means but possible by physical means, although not financially worthwhile.
Why do I mention alchemy? Well, it is somewhat comparable to the current popular delusion that I mentioned previously, not to turn base metals into gold, but rather to transcend the laws of biology and transmute human nature. In a hundred years time, will this be considered another folly in human history? Time will tell I suppose.

I don’t care about party politics, but the Australian Labor Party are ruining the economy, or at least, that’s what the headline says. Labor are the ones that claim they are here to help the common man, but in reality, they’re doing the opposite. They’re committing hundreds of billions of dollars towards do-nothing submarines. They’re blindly following a low-emission agenda at the expense of people’s livelihoods and skyrocketing power prices. They seem to have no answers for out-of-control inflation, hurting millions of low-income Australians daily. And to top it all off, they’ve opened the floodgates to immigration putting upwards pressure on an already over-priced housing market and ever-increasing rents. There needs to be major structural reforms to increase the supply of new housing, but unfortunately, Labor don’t seem to want to fix it. You don’t have to agree with me, but that’s what’s happening.

A famous brand of Australian cheese, one that I cannot say for a variety of reasons, has had a name change after 85 years. Its Canadian owners Saputo Dairy have given into pressure from some concerned citizens and changed the cheese’s name to Cheer Cheese which is scheduled to be launched in July 2021. The main reason I can’t say the original name is because last time I said it, YouTube accused me of using an “extreme hateful slur” even though it was obvious that I wasn’t using it in that way and was simply stating the name of a popular brand of cheese in Australia (but try explaining anything to these big tech giants). The name, as I’ve said before, is simply the surname of the guy who patented the cheese maturation process. Anyway, it has a new name, Cheer! I’m not against them changing its name in that companies are free to change the name of their products whenever they want to. It’s a free country after all. But their reasoning for changing it might raise some questions.
