Preparations Aboard USNS Comfort in New York - Post Anesthesia Care Unit
NEW YORK CITY (March 31, 2020) – The hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) prepares the post-anesthesia care unit to admit patients in support of the nation’s COVID-19 response efforts. Comfort will serve as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to shore-based hospitals. This allows shore-based hospitals to focus their efforts on COVID-19 cases. One of the Department of Defense's missions is Defense Support of Civil Authorities. DoD is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, as well as state, local and public health authorities in helping protect the health and safety of the American people. INDIAN OCEAN (Dec. 30, 2020) The guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett fires its Mark 38 25mm machine gun during a live-fire exercise. Sterett is part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group and is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three critical chokepoints to the free flow of global commerce. PHILIPPINE SEA (Oct. 21, 2022) Nine Chief-selects are promoted to chief petty officer (CPO) during a CPO pinning ceremony aboard Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) in the Philippine Sea on Oct. 21, 2022. Chancellorsville is forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific and is assigned to Commander, Task Force 70, a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of its allies and partners in the region. PACIFIC OCEAN (July 26, 2022) – A U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker conducts long-range aerial refueling with U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, three submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.
