A feature on a US Army first sergeant and how he helps his Soldiers prepare for the promotion board, and success in life both in and out of the military. Filmed, edited, narrated, and produced by Rebecca Schwab.
The USS Walke was preparing for the invasion of Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands in January 1945 when four Japanese suicide planes approached to attack simultaneously. Cmdr. George Davis took his position in the exposed wings of the bridge and directed control to pick up the leading plane and open fire. The first and second plane were shot down and crashed in the water, but the third hit the bridge structure, seriously wounding Cmdr. Davis. In spite of his wounds, he continued his command, exhorted his men to save the ship, and watched as the fourth plane was shot down. Once the safety of the ship was assured, he consented to be treated for his wounds but died hours later. For his conduct, Cmdr. Davis was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. His body was buried at sea. In the summer of 2022, a memorial ceremony was held at Punchbowl Cemetery, helping to bring closure to his family.
This is a super vulnerable video...
I was 38 (almost 39) when it suddenly hit me - thanks to a friend going through the donor process - that I didn't have to keep waiting for a man to show up and allow me to have a child. I'd been looking for 20 years and I knew my time was almost up, but the idea of having a child via a donor was scary to me. It's scary for a lot of women.
So here's a little video to show you what I was like BEFORE I had my son, and then a bit of my life AFTER I had my son. There is seriously good stuff on the other side of scary.

FC2 George Gilbert was killed in action aboard the USS Oklahoma on Dec, 7, 1941. After the Pearl Harbor attack, deceased service members who could not be identified - including many from the USS Oklahoma - were buried together at the Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, HI. In 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency began the process of exhuming and identifying their remains using modern forensic technology. One of those recently identified was FC2 Gilbert. With his family in attendance, FC2 Gilbert was laid to rest at Punchbowl Cemetery on June 6, 2022 with full military honors.
NEW video coming every Sunday. I have an endless list of topics to talk about concerning this subject, and I look forward to sharing ideas, experiences, and hopefully helpful tips to anyone out there who may need it.
This is a new AND old video. I did this video when I was six months pregnant with my son, so it was back in April 2020, but rather than redo everything, I think this covers all the key points I want to make about how I chose my donor. The process was quite overwhelming at first, but here's how I simplified it and made my choice.
One key thing I believe I forgot to mention in the video: I did a complete genetic screening to make sure I was not a carrier for any of the same genetic issues as the donor. He was a carrier for one thing I didn't have, and vice versa. This gave me a lot of peace of mind.
