One of the keys for me has been controlling heart rate to ride while fasted and utilize fat adaptation. So far I've been successful and on this ride, I go about 43 miles cycle touring while fasted, stop for a nice lunch of Chicken and green beans (had to skip the mashed potatoes :D) and a few almonds before carrying on for another 17 miles or so and calling it a day.
