***”Republica”*** are an alternative rock band formed in 1994 in Windsor, Berkshire (England, United Kingdom). The group consists of ***[Samantha Sprackling](https://cutt.ly/ubVTD0g)*** (aka ***Saffron***, vocals), ***[Tim Dorney](https://cutt.ly/1bVYIk4)*** (keyboards), ***[Johnny Male](https://cutt.ly/8bVYNh2)*** (guitars) and ***[Pete Riley](https://cutt.ly/hbVY9p3)*** (drums). Other members have been Andy Todd (keyboards), David Barbarossa (drums), Alix Tiernan (percussion) and Mick Pirie (bass).
With cynicism and a wry sense of humor, ***”Republica”*** has succeeded in turning the tables on the London club scene, with what Saffron describes as "techno-pop punk rock."
Working with strong, accessible Hi-NRG beats and catchy choruses, the trio has a bright, energetic sound that is quite infectious when tied with the right melodies, catched on eleven power-packed self-titled debut album, ***”Republica"***.
Perhaps the influence came indirectly, via British acts like the ***”Grid”***, ***”Orbital”***, ***“N-Joi”***, and ***“Peter Lazonby”***, who have all been seduced by Moroder's ahead-of-their-time trance beats, transforming them into the fashionable club sounds of today (and tomorrow).
If they had more than one sound, however, Republica would be even more entertaining, but as it stands, the record is a stretch of pleasantly numbing dance-pop punctuated by two terrific singles, ***"Ready to Go"***, and ***"Drop Dead Gorgeous"***. Whatever the cross-reference, there is no denying Republica's verve for hitting that perfect, danceable beat.
***”Picture Me”*** is the fifth song on the Republica’s debut album, ***"[Republica](https://cutt.ly/Ib1PZIB)"*** published by ***”[deConstruction](https://cutt.ly/tbVFUFr)”, in 1996.

***”Supergrass”*** are an English rock band formed in 1993 in Oxford. The band consists of brothers ***[Gaz](https://cutt.ly/hcFGyBY)*** (guitar and lead vocals) and ***[Rob Coombes](https://cutt.ly/pcFGa6t)*** (keyboards), ***[Mick Quinn](https://cutt.ly/DcFGjfa)*** (bass and backing vocals) and ***[Danny Goffey](https://cutt.ly/ScFGcf3)*** (drums and backing vocals).
Like many other British bands of the '90s, Supergrass' musical roots lie in the infectiously catchy punk-pop of the **”[Buzzcocks](https://cutt.ly/vcFGmGK)”** and the **”[Jam](https://cutt.ly/gcFGUPP)”**, as well as the post-punk pop of **”[Madness](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madness_(band))”** and the traditional Brit-pop of the **”[Kinks](https://cutt.ly/ecFGAbb)”** and **”[Small Faces](https://cutt.ly/JcFGGSI)”**.
With an exuberant, youthful enthusiasm, Supergrass tied all of their influences together in surprising new ways, where a Buzzcocks riff could slam into three-part harmonies out of *"Crocodile Rock,"* or have a galloping music hall rhythm stutter like the best moments of **”[The Who](https://cutt.ly/ccFGZmo)”**.
***”Road to Rouen”*** is the band's fifth studio album, released on August 2005 by **”Parlophone”** and **“Capitol Records”**. The album reflected a rough period for the band and was oriented towards longer, looser, more orchestral material. Tight, sharply focused album with purpose and momentum.
And if ***”Road to Rouen”*** is anything, it is not monotonous -- it may be an ideal soundtrack for night, but this is hardly a one-note, self-absorbed introspective record.
Road to Rouen may not be a party record, but the best of bands can do any number of sounds while still sounding like themselves, and with this excellent album, Supergrass do prove that they can do exactly that. ***"R.E.M."*** was an American rock band from ***[Athens, Georgia](https://cutt.ly/NmRkghQ)***, formed in 1980 by drummer ***[Bill Berry](https://cutt.ly/AmRklXQ)***, guitarist ***[Peter Buck](https://cutt.ly/ymRkcq5)***, bassist ***[Mike Mills](https://cutt.ly/CmRknrO)***, and lead vocalist ***[Michael Stipe](https://cutt.ly/lmRkQn5)***, who were students at the University of Georgia.
Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern.
While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, ***"R.E.M."*** brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. The band marked the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock, and inspired countless bands, from the legions of jangle pop groups in the mid-'80s to scores of alternative pop groups in the '90s, who admired their slow climb to stardom.
Recorded during and immediately following R.E.M.'s ***"Monster tour"***, ***"New Adventures in Hi-Fi"*** feels like it was recorded on the road. Not only are all of ***Stipe's*** lyrics on the album about moving or travel, the sound is ragged and varied, pieced together from tapes recorded at shows, soundtracks, and studios, giving it a loose, careening charm.
The fans generally regard it as the band's last great record before a perceived artistic decline during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
This was their swan song, chaotically recorded in various places full of raw gems, and the last adventure in hi-fi with founding member ***Bill Berry***, original manager ***[Jefferson Holt](https://cutt.ly/dmPQED4)***, and long-time producer ***[Scott Litt](https://cutt.ly/1mPQQN0)***.
***”The Wake-Up Bomb”*** is the second song on the band’s tenth studio album ***"[New Adventures In Hi-Fi](https://cutt.ly/lmPAJ4v)"***, released on September 9, 1996 for ***"Warner Bros. Records"***.

# ***"Airiel" Biography***
***“Airiel”*** is an American shoegaze band formed as ***“Airiel Project One”*** in 1997, in ***[Bloomington](https://cutt.ly/4QLvozb)***, ***Indiana***, by guitarist and vocalist ***[Jeremy Wrenn](https://cutt.ly/yQLxNkZ)*** and former bandmate ***Shawn Delaney***.
Eventually relocating to ***[Chicago](https://cutt.ly/bQLnFfg)***, the group sporadically appeared on compilations and gave away a limited CD-R EP titled ***“Christmas Colors”*** in 2002, but no proper ***“Airiel”*** releases surfaced until 2003, when they initiated a series of ***“Winks & Kisses”*** EPs, each of which included one epic approaching (or exceeding) the ten-minute mark. After being individually released by ***“[Clairecords](https://cutt.ly/xQLvQ0B)”*** between July 2003 and June 2004., all four were issued as a limited CD box set at the end of the year, also titled ***“[Winks and Kisses](https://cutt.ly/vQZwvC2)”***.
> In honor of their contribution to the culture of the ***[Principality of Sealand](https://cutt.ly/QQZwp8a)***, a micronation, all the members of the band were named official lords of ***Sealand***, and were invited to be the first rock band to play a concert in the nation, to be broadcast live over the internet. However, this concert did not take place.
>
> On each song, ***"Airiel"*** fills the speakers with echoing, shimmering sound, so much so that it is the sheer sound that dominates the experience of listening to the album.
> The CD booklet contains a lyric sheet detailing the words of group members ***Jeremy Wrenn*** and ***Cory Osborne***; without it, the listener wouldn't have a clue what they're singing, since the vocals are buried so far down in the mix that they can barely be perceived and come off as just another sound within the cyclonic musical effects.
>
> On their own, they are sometimes despairing, sometimes descriptive, and, in ***"[Stay](https://cutt.ly/xQZetUs)"*** romantic, but there's no way to tell that by merely listening to the album. Rather, the musical intention clearly is to create a sense of aural majesty that sometimes devolves down to industrial noise.
