Amtrak P42DC #50 leads the westbound Train 51, The Cardinal, through West Afton Interlocking just east of the famous Blue Right Tunnel. The train is operating about 30 minutes late and just passed the on time Train #50 between here and Charlottesville.
West Afton interlocking is currently being re-signaled by the Buckingham Branch shortline replacing the classic C&O era signals and pole line. The Afton siding will be downgraded from Signaled to Controlled (aka Restricted Speed).

I guess someone forgot to tell BART not to accept joke bids when they chose to connect the Coliseum BART station to the Oakland Airport with a modern day cable car. It is definitely a lot faster than the old Bus, but I don't know if it's worth the $400 million price tag.

View from the back of Amtrak's 2016 Autumn Express as it returns to New York City via Amtrak's Harrisburg Line. Train was limited to 90mph due to the length and power available. Train had to run reverse between RHEEMS and CORK to clear conflicting traffic. Moreover it slowed to 20mph in order to not have to wait stopped outside of Lancaster for 20-30 minutes.

Take a trip down the center track of the METRA Union Pacific Northwest commuter rail line that heads in an almost straight line northwest out of the city. A 3 track raceway between Barrington and the junction with the North Line at Clybourne, the frequent peak period express trains can see sustained running at 70mph. This was the 7:52 scheduled super express making only one stop at Des Plains.
Trains runs on the left due to the Chicago Northwestern heritage and on this line only the center track is bi-directional for most of the route. Also note the Automatic Trans Stop inductors at each signal location. Just before the stop at Des Plains the train will travel through the Iron Triangle Deval interlocking with diamond crossings of the CN/WC and another UP/CNW line.
Note, the cold was affecting my Go Pro batteries and the first few minutes will suffer from a series of jump cuts. Also, I hope to repeat the trip on a day with more cloud cover to avoid the back lighting as at this time of year the NW line heads directly into the rising sun.

A westbound MARC Camden Line Train, powered by MP36PH-3C #19, was stopped at DORSEY interlocking to wait for the next eastbound train from DC to clear the block such that the westbound could cross over and wrong rail. Due to the limitations of the PTC positive stop enforcement, the westbound had to stop about 5 carlengths short of the signals located directly past the west end of the platform. This forced passengers to walk nearly the full length of the platform.
When the eastbound train, led by MP36PH-3C #11 and trailed by cab car #8054, finally arrived the westbound had to wait some time for the signal to display and the PTC update to register before continuing on. This delay allowed the passengers from the eastbound to reach the duckboard crossing before the westbound, resulting in quite a bit of horn action.

Head end ride on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's "Airtran Airtrain" as it runs from the Howard Beach parking Lot / Subway Station station to the Federal Circle transfer station after servicing all of the JFK terminals in an anti-clockwise direction.
The AirTran Airtrain is a Bombardier built ZPTO automated transit system rooted in the old UTDC ICTS, Despite the Airtrain being an essential service for travelers there was significant trackwork going on that day which resulted in increased headways and lots of wrong railing. Great for railfanning, but sucking for air passengers.
I miscalculated which direction I was going to shoot the video so the segment between the A-Train terminal station and the parking lot station is in the opposite direction at the end of the video.
Due to Hurricane Sandy a shuttle bus was running between Howard Beach and Far Rockaway allowing free transfer to the Airtrain saving $10. Trains wrong rail out of the Jamaica terminal to allow out of service cars to be stored on the main track.
