Actually, the shortness and directness of these songs could be seen as a bigger experiment for the band than their frequent lockgrooves and hypnotic passages, it presents a version of the band's sound that is just as vivid as their earlier output, but fizzing with immediacy and urgency.
Album opens with a surprisingly swift rhythm, and bopping backing vocals, then comes animated brass, guitars, and percussion that suggest gears rotating and levers lifting and falling in playful but somewhat sinister fashion.
Despite its name, the album actually features some of ***"Stereolab"*** most organic-sounding music in some time, downplaying their arsenal of analog synths in favor of live instrumentation.
It manages to be even more concisely charming than ***"SL"*** from fuzzy Moogs of the ***"[Mars Audiac Quintet](https://cutt.ly/xm9iRfJ)"*** era, sacrificing little of the band’s distinctive sound for its immediacy.

# ***"Lush" Biography***
One of the first bands to have been described with the *"shoegazing"* label, were an English alternative band formed in ***[London](https://cutt.ly/GQCIBch)*** in 1987. The original ***“Lush”*** line-up consisted of ***[Miki Berenyi](https://cutt.ly/4QCI0hj)*** (vocals, guitar), ***[Emma Anderson](https://cutt.ly/pQCI94G)*** (vocals, guitar), ***[Steve Rippon](https://cutt.ly/5QCObEV)*** (bass) and ***[Chris Acland](https://cutt.ly/aQCI4A2)*** (drums).
***[Phil King](https://cutt.ly/gQCOh1X)*** replaced ***Rippon*** in 1991. ***Meriel Barham***, the original lead vocalist left almost immediately, eventually joining ***“[Pale Saints](https://cutt.ly/NQC1jGo)”***. When a replacement could not be found, guitarist ***Miki*** stepped up to the mic.
The band, initially named the ***"Baby Machines"***, were inspired by the garage rock scene of the ***"[Nuggets](https://cutt.ly/hQC0sUW)”*** series", ***"[Cocteau Twins](https://cutt.ly/bQC0hPF)"***, ***"[Siouxsie and the Banshees](https://cutt.ly/cQC0c8G)"***, the ***"[Beach Boys](https://cutt.ly/bQC0S95)"*** and the ***''[Byrds](https://cutt.ly/hQC0G0V)``***.
> On their fourth album ***“Lovelife”***, the band moved away from their earlier *dream pop* and *shoegazing* style and embraced a more *Britpop*-oriented sound.
> From the circular melody of the opening "[Ladykillers](https://cutt.ly/MQBVC6t)" it's clear that “Lush” had been influenced by the direct, jagged pop of “[Elastica](https://cutt.ly/EQBV2wF)”, but the band also has reached back into '60s pop. All of the ballads on ***“Lovelife”*** are rooted in the hazy dream pop of the early '90s, but they are given stylish, mod arrangements complete with muted brass.

> ***“Lush”*** had completed touring for the year and was on break when ***Chris Acland***, suffering from depression, had unexpectedly hung himself in his parent's home on October 17, 1996. Devastated by the loss, the remaining members of ***“Lush”*** dropped out of the public eye.

On their 1990 debut album ***"Pod"*** the ***"Breeders"*** prove that they have more potential, and more fun, than the average side project. ***"The Auteurs"*** were a British alternative rock band of the 1990s, and a vehicle for songwriter ***[Luke Haines](https://cutt.ly/JncuRe6)*** (guitar, piano and vocals).
Formerly a member of ***"[The Servants](https://cutt.ly/LncuIc1)"***, Haines created the Auteurs with his then-girlfriend ***[Alice Readman](https://cutt.ly/LncuIc1)*** on bass guitar, former classmate ***[Glenn Collins](https://cutt.ly/AnciuAS)*** on drums, and later added ***[James Banbury](https://cutt.ly/nncisTw)*** on cello.
At the start of their career, ***”The Auteurs”*** became associated with the Britpop movement, however this association was not liked by ***Haines***, who frequently made derogatory remarks about his peers.
Frontman and the group's guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, wrote highly melodic pop songs that combined the airy melodies of ***[George Harrison](https://cutt.ly/encihWZ)*** with the cutting social observations of ***[Ray Davies](https://cutt.ly/OncikOl)***; they were sharp, intelligent songs, full of humor and gorgeous melancholy, even when loudly rocking.
Opening bedroom tale ***"[The Rubettes](https://cutt.ly/4nOOhfu)"*** features a delicate, Brill Building lullaby chorus while a repetitive staccato riff offplays the fragility. The title track's quiet chaos on The Auteurs fourth studio album ***"How I Learned to Love the Bootboys"*** has Haines' whispered vocals buttressed by sirens, percolating electro bleeps, and a graceful dub bassline.
***"[Your Gang Our Gang](https://cutt.ly/enOOdIP)"*** relocates the fight scenes of Grease and West Side Story to the streets of London with equal doses of menace and tongue-in-cheek. Tough and joyful at the same time.
Haines' guitar has never sounded so fittingly sharp while avoiding abrasiveness.
On his last ***"The Auteurs"*** album he integrated the sound of 1970s glam, in the form of glossy synths, twinkling xylophones, doowop vocals, perfect pop hooks, and saccharine sentiments... but always caged in his elegant guitar lines, and hushed narration.
