This year's World Nomad film scholarship competition is in full effect. And it finds the winner in Louisiana for Mardis Gras. So, having missed last year's film competition for a chance to go to Rio, I wasn't going to let another chance (and the opportunity to have a commute of the Creole kind) slip by. As most of you know, I have been crazy busy editing my latest film, Travel Geek: North Borneo. So I am swamped for time and couldn't head out to get new footage to submit. (Another note is that I thought that it was probably best that I didn't use previously published content for a contest. They didn't say anything about it, but I figured it was a no-no. So that was a consideration also.) Fortunately, I had some footage from my latest film, Travel Geek: Documentary Malaysia, that was good but didn't make the final cut due to time constraints. So, to see that it didn't go to waste, I edited it down to precisely three minutes to meet their time limitations and submitted it. While this isn't my most charismatic moment on film, the competition isn't just about personality. It's also about being a selective editor as well as being a good interviewer -- all as a one-man-band. So I hope that I've enticed them enough to stop by my channel and check out what else I've done.
