Machine Shop Quick Shot--- Globoid Gear Machining on a 5-Axis
This is just a quick shot video of a set of parts that I did a while back. The bronze we did the turning and all the milling including internal keyway. The shaft took a while to figure out but I got it down in the end.
I enjoyed this job and am looking for globid gear jobs. Reverse engineering as well as machining to your models.
Thanks for watching. I've got a bunch of these short videos that I caught some machining I caught on video.
Just finished this beauty for a blown film extrusion machine. Programmed from a 2d sketch in Mastercam and machined on a Mori Seiki NTX. All surfaces polished to a 16rms finish. High Quality American Machining at Zala Machine in New Jersey.

Currently working on this beautiful complex flange. This is most likely the most difficult CNC Turning part I've ever done. It is a challenge but once done it will be amazing. Many tight tolerance features and very intrequite grooving. I enjoy these type of parts very much.
This operation I found an old tool that fit perfect to my need. I needed to face the front and back of the flange in one set up to hit the very very tight tolerance. There is less than .0003" difference thickness all the way around. The Zala Rail Holder came in very useful with this part.
I have the full video of this part coming up real soon. Still working on it. Plus it has some complex milling.

A quick shot of my father "The Boss" of Zala Machine making easy work of this difficult part. We had to make off center flanges to mount on the tube to turn the ends. In my humble opinion he is one of the best Lathe Hands around. He's been at it for 45 years and still going strong. Doubt he'll retire before his 80's. Runs his machine everyday and doesn't ever hold back. He's my turning master and I've been honored to take his tips and ideas and incorporate them into my CNC turning style. No jobs is impossible he always says.

CNC Machining of a spiral die for the plastics industry, machined from scratch on our Mori Seiki NTX 2000. Started with a 13" dia round bar of 4140 heat treated steel and finished with a very pretty part. It was sitting in there all along I just had to get it out.

Quick walk through our Gundrilling and Honing Shop. We have 4 different size Sunnen Hones for honing from 1/16" dia up to 22" dia. We regularly hold .0001" tolerances with mirror finishes.
For gundrilling we use an old Leblonde engine lathe that we converted into a round bar gundrill machine. it to a gundrill machine. We drill holes from 1/8" dia up to 5.0" dia up to 140" deep.
Let me know if you like these kind of videos I have plenty more just need to upload.

One of my machining mentors showing off a machining trick. The job required drilling 2 holes. The larger hole was drilled on our gundrill machine the second hole needed to be directly in center at the bottom of the first. Josef the milling master came up with this solution. He made a guide bushing from bronze to keep the drill steady, mounted it on an angle head in the Bridgeport and off he went. Neither one of the holes are through the part. Material is 17-4 Stainless.
Another creative solution at Zala Machine. I'm honored to learn from these guys.

Testing out the Knux Style inserts from Mitsubishi in 4140 heat treated to 34 rockwell on our Okuma LBX Turning Center. Normally cut with plenty of coolant blasting but wanted to show the cut. Great chips and good heat evacuation, with no coolant the part is not getting hot. All the heat goes with the chips and down the conveyor. Very happy with these inserts but looking for ones I could take even more at a time. Got about 60% spindle load in low gear on our 50 horse power Okuma.
Being able to test these tools and machines is one of my favorite parts of this job. I will start making videos reviewing my favorite tools.
