Oculus Quest 2 - My journey Part 1
So Virtual Reality (VR) has been a bit of a dream for IT nerds for years, the Oculus headsets have become firm favourites due to their price and quality balance. The latest model is the Quest 2.

I decided to overcome my dislike for the forced Facebook account and grab one of the hard to come by 256gb models. I unbox and talk about the new owner experience of setting it up. You will need to charge the headset, activate the battery in each handle, have your wifi password, have a smart phone/tablet and have an active fb account.

If you have never seen VR before this is a pretty amazing journey - the quality is very good and the sense of 'prescience' inside the virtual world is very good. Of course I just need to work out how to record the sessions and get them onto my PC for editing - expect more in part 2. Next will be trying out hooking it up to a PC to play games in my Steam library.

Pros:
Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 and 6gb RAM allows for decent games
1832x1920 pixels per eye display at up to 90Hz refresh rate (with supported games)
Wireless experience for no clutter VR gaming
Includes hand tracking out of the box (it isn't perfect but is decent and could improve)
Can record gameplay to internal memory (not always supported btw)
Pass-through cameras, can double tap on the side of the headset to activate
With a cable you can play VR games via a gaming PC
Some great free apps in store
Relatively cheap

Cons:
Hard to find in stock at rrp right now
White design marks easily
Headset battery life is around 3 hours max
IPD adjustment is manual, internal finger jabbing required and only in three levels - 58mm, 63mm , 68mm (apparently you can slide the lenses a bit to tweak this)
lacks focus adjustment so I have to wear glasses to play
No cable supplied out of the box for play via PC (supplied one is short for charging)
Not wireless via your PC out of the box, requires an app and a mod (and dev mode to be activated)
Forced requirement of a Facebook account in order to use it. (THIS is the big one for many who have no account or a ban from FB - potentially bricking the device from an owners pov)

In summary
Not the best on the market tech specs (but then it is maybe 25% of the price of a high end pc and headset combo) but it is good enough and brings semi affordable VR to the masses. An excellent device that should please many and deliver hours of fun.
