After coming out with the Case Saver kits for the C64 bread bin and 64C we started getting requests for a similar kit for the Amiga 600. The A600 uses similar 'hooks' as the VIC20 and early C64 bread bins but scaled down considerably. In addition to four back clips there are two clips on the side.
The back clips are made to slip in between the two original 'hooks' and can be used to repair broken clips or to bolster intact clips to keep them from breaking off in the future. The side clips were tricky to make as there is not a lot of room to work with and we wanted them to also hold themselves into place while the epoxy cures.
Each kit contains four of the rear repair kits and once each of the left-side and right-side repair clips.

We kick off #SepTandy2021 with a Tandy TPDD2 which was merrily running fine and minding its own business when it was accidently knocked off a table. The case is popped apart and cracked a bit, and it stopped working to boot.
Will we be able to save this little battery powered 3.5” disk drive? Join us and find out.

Description
In this video, we have a brief introduction to the RCA 1802 microprocessor and how to use an Arduino Mega 2560 to test them. After receiving a batch of relabeled 1802s from China I needed a quick way to test them to see if they were legit and working. An Arduino Mega 2560 was sitting on my bench at the time and made a good basis for a test rig to test the chips out.
Follow along as we learn just a bit about the 1802 and then find out how to make a test rig.

In this video we’ll follow on from the Backpack Quick Start. We’ll cover the differences in the newer Backpack Drive Plus (BPD+), and discuss the file layout on GitHub for both versions. We will also find out how to discover if the .BA programs for your M100 are really .DO, what problems this causes and how to avoid them. We will learn how to change the operating mode for machines covered in standard firmware, how to update firmware including updating to the special Epson version. We will then take a look at the adapters that are available to connect the Backpack with your computer.
In an upcoming episode we’ll go into more advanced Backpack topics such as transferring files using XMODEM, writing BASIC programs to access Backpack feature and connecting the BPD to your PC and accessing it through VirtualT.

In this video we take a look at an official TRS-80 Model 100 factory modification that was done to the RS-232 port. This was released as TSB 100-001 almost 40 years ago. The early M100s had too large a currently limiting resistor in the RS-232 output lines which caused compatibility problems with some other TRS-80 products as well as other RS-232 devices.
We discover what the problem is, we apply the modification as per the bulletin, and test the results to see how it performs. We also find this same modification also applies to the NEC-8201a which uses the exact same RS-232 circuit design and has the same problem.

10:48 – Fixing the problem
16:32 – Testing our fix
18:17 – It works for the NEC PC-8201a too!

I was able to attend Tandy Assembly 2023 this year. It is always a good time. Reuniting with friends, enjoying the presentations and machines, parts, misc. that folks bring to display and sell. I took a few walks around the floor to look at everything and stopped and talked to folks about their displays when I could. The audio quality is not great but then such shows are always noisy in person too.

Description
Follow along with Part 2 of this hard-fought battle to bring an old TRS-80 Model 100 laptop back from the brink. Not being familiar with this machine the diagnosis was lengthy but with the help of the good folks on the Model 100 mailing list and Saleae logic analyzer it did spring back to life.
In Part 2 we finish the re-cap and replace the old NiCad memory backup battery with a modern Super Capacitor and learn a lot about the benefits and drawbacks of a super capacitor along the way. We also look at the bad RAM module to see if the fault can be diagnosed.

In this video we take a quick look at how to ‘Stupid Proof” your vintage computer edge connectors. Most all manufacturers added keying slots to the edge connector on the PCB. The slots like up with keys, slips of plastic inserted into connector, which prevent one from plugging the connector in upside down. Many manufacturers of devices that plug into these slots don’t bother adding the keys to the connectors even though it is cheap and easy to do.
Add your own keys and ‘Stupid Proof’ your edge connectors.
