MiniDisc is an interesting format that never quite caught on in the USA, due to the expense of the media, the presistent popularity of cassettes, and the rapid adoption of recordable CD-R discs. It is not true "CD quality" due to the use of lossy ATRAC3 compression, which is comparable to MP3, but not as good as MP4/AAC. (For that reason, a high bias cassette recorded with Dolby C, S, or DBX noise reduction actually sounds better to my ears.) Nonetheless, this MiniDisc recorder works perfectly, despite its atrocious cosmetic condition.

Harris V-CPM was one of five AM Stereo broadcasting systems proposed to the FCC in the late '70s. In 1979, Harris put out this 45 rpm LP (also available on reel-to-reel tape) to demonstrate the performance and tout the advantages of their system.
The Harris V-CPM system was the most technologically advanced and arguably the best performing AM Stereo system, but it was also the most complex and costly to implement. In 1984, Harris modified their system to be compatible with Motorola C-Quam, which was becoming the de facto standard for AM Stereo, and began building Motorola-licensed C-Quam equipment for radio stations.
In 1993, the FCC belatedly chose Motorola C-Quam as the USA's single standard for AM Stereo broadcasting, after Australia and Canada had already done so in 1985 and 1988, respectively. Numerous C-Quam AM Stereo stations remain on the air today worldwide, but along with the Magnavox, Kahn/Hazeltine, and Belar systems, the Harris system has long since been rendered defunct.
Side B contains many music samples which will unfortunately have to be edited in order to avoid copyright restrictions. I also had to cut off the ending of this side due to a copyright restriction which would've blocked this video in some countries.

Mac users, please move along... this video isn't for you! :-P
If you use Windows Movie Maker and your YouTube videos are showing up wrong, especially if you're trying to do widescreen videos, then please watch this quick tutorial and follow the settings I show. Then you will get the correct results... in fact, I used WMM to make this video itself. Note that this is based on the XP version. The Vista version, especially Movie Maker HD, may be different, but the general idea remains the same.
p.s. The "Video for local playback (2.1 Mbps)" setting is fine as well for videos without a lot of motion, such as screen capture videos or slide shows -- it gives you the sharpest, clearest picture. For normal camcorder videos with a good amount of motion, "High quality video (large)" generally provides the best results.

Driving my 2008 Mazda3 on an unpaved dirt/gravel road in rural Hunterdon County, NJ. It rained the day before so thankfully it wasn't too dusty, although I did have to avoid some large puddles. Also, later I caught some amateurish footage of an old, small plane in the sky.

This radio survived the Cold War, and still plays today on what I believe to be all its original components. It is an Arvin model 951T, circa 1955, in then-fashionable Coral pinkish-orange color. It is a traditional "All American Five" design with miniature tubes on a printed circuit board.
The two triangles on the dial indicate the CONELRAD frequencies of 640 and 1240 kHz, a system used in the USA from 1953 to 1963 and designed to both confuse enemy aircraft which might use radio transmitters as their targets and to broadcast emergency information to the public in the event of a nuclear attack. Thankfully, CONELRAD never had to be used for its intended purpose, and was replaced by the Emergency Broadcast System in 1963.
