In this above video, Lauder Observatory last year released footage of their recent launch of a high altitude balloon they named the "Edge of Space Cam" at an altitude of nearly 90,000 feet or 27 Kilometers. This video poses more questions than answers. It also seems to be a distraction from the real focus of the Lauder Observatory--historically founded to study the mysterious Southern Lights, energy, radio, and other phenomenon emanating from Antarctica. New Zealand's Lauder Atmospheric Observatory started in 1961 after a 1957 Act in New Zealand began research on Antarctica, the Aurora Borealis "Southern Lights", and related radio waves. Within the last three weeks, the focus has been back on New Zealand and Antarctica after John Kerry made a landmark first trip to Antarctica and New Zealand to announce the huge new Ross Treaty ban passed--adding further sea restrictions to the already banned travel to Antarctica under the Antarctica Treaty.
