Lauten Audio LA-220 Condenser Mic Review / Test (Compared to Rode NT1, AT2020, NW7000)
Today I review the Lauten Audio LA220. This is a large diaphragm FET condenser microphone, that is a utilitarian workhorse. It offers a smooth and even sound to it that works great for spoken word and singing as well as acoustic guitar. I also compare it to the Rode NT1, Neewer NW7000, Audio Technica AT2020, and Sennheiser MK4.

Today we’re looking at the new mic from HyperX which is a direct competitor to the Blue Yeti, the QuadCast. This is a USB Multi-pattern condenser microphone designed as a Streaming Mic, Gaming Mic, and Discord Mic. The mic does a decent job at rejecting background noise (while on the cardioid polar pattern), and the shock mount also does a decent job at rejecting bumps of the desk. However, the mic does suffer from serious plosive issues. The A/D conversion maxes out at 16-bit/48kHz, and all around it’s just an alright mic, in my opinion.

Today I review the Apogee Duet, a premium USB interface for Mac, iOS, and Windows (in the near future). This is not cheap, but it offers excellent A/D and D/A converters as well as +75dB of gain on the preamps! Today I review the new budget mic from Behringer, the BX2020. Is it trying to copy the Audio Technica AT2020? We may never know. This is an affordable mic that has a quite sibilant top end and roll off in the low end. It also doesn’t do great at ambient noise rejection or plosive rejection. Oh did I mention that I have no idea if they’re trying to copy the AT2020?

Today I review the CAD U2, a USB headset from the folks at CAD. This budget headset offers mediocre build quality, subpar headphone performance, and mediocre mic performance. If you’re just looking for an option for VOIP, then this may be a fine option, and it may be a good option to send to your podcast guests who do not have mics. Other than that, I don’t really recommend this thing ESPECIALLY if you are a MAC user.
