Kaamelott-Premier-Volet-2021-French-with-English-subtitles
Kaamelott: Premier Volet is a French film written and directed by Alexandre Astier, released in 2021. A continuation of the Kaamelott television series, broadcast between 2005 and 2009, the film should constitute the first part of a trilogy. As the series ended with the exile of former King Arthur, the film tells his return ten years later to his kingdom of Logres, now ruled with an iron fist by his enemy Lancelot du Lac. Alexandre Astier envisions the conclusion of the story of his series in a cinematographic trilogy as soon as it airs in the 2000s. The announcements of the first film follow one another over the following decade, until the project is completed in 2019. As for the series, Astier writes the screenplay, directs, interprets, produces and sets his film to music. Adding to the expectation, the Covid-19 pandemic is again pushing back the theatrical release on several occasions. Finally released in July 2021, twelve years after the end of the series, Kaamelott: Premier Volet is a commercial success with more than two and a half million admissions in France, in a difficult period for theaters, becoming for many best box office month since the start of the pandemic. This is the third success of 2021 in France. The film also experiences a spacewalk, aboard the International Space Station commanded by Thomas Pesquet.
Plot :
At the end of Book VI of Kaamelott, King Arthur, disillusioned and weakened, renounces the throne, returns Excalibur to the rock and entrusts power to his former companion and rival Lancelot du Lac. Under the influence of the strange Méléagant, Lancelot burns down the Round Table and sets out to hunt down Arthur's former knights and other allies. With the help of the bandit Venec, Arthur secretly goes into exile to his ancient homeland, Rome, to escape Lancelot's madness and regain his health.
Ten years later, the kingdom of Logres is still suffering under the yoke of Lancelot, who reigns terror with the support of Saxon mercenaries. The resistance tries to organize, while Arthur Pendragon, who many believe is dead, returns.
