"Experiencing an alien abduction" is not the same thing as "being abducted by aliens." Subtle difference with huge implications. Your friend might insist that he's been abducted. That's OK - there's one way to make sense of his claims without thinking he's crazy or a liar. He might be truthfully reporting his experiences without correctly identifying the cause of those experience.
