WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. It has become too unreliable due to manufacturers altering the components used in their products as well as alterations to operating systems causing additional problems. The only method of connecting a microphone to your computer that I recommend is with a USB AUDIO INTERFACE that is designed specifically for that use case.
Today I review an iPhone microphone, the iRig Mic Studio, which is an iOS / Android / Mac / Windows compatible microphone. This mic provides clarity that is almost too much, due to the overly boosted high end, causing it to sound slightly unnatural. It records 24-bit 48kHz which is nice, and it does a decent job at rejecting plosives.

Today we’re looking at a budget usb microphone, the FiFine K670. This mic comes in at under $50, and seems to work well enough. It does have an over boosted high end that can be a bit harsh and fatiguing, but I think plenty of people upgrading from gaming headsets will be perfectly happy with this thing.

Today I review the ModMic USB and ModMic Uni and also do a comparison to a gaming headset (Sennheiser Game One). The mics allow you to turn any headphones into a gaming headset, but they do not provide audio that sounds much better than a standard gaming headset. Therefore, if you just want to use your favorite headphones for gaming, then it works great. But if you want this for podcasting, or high quality live stream audio, you’d be better served with a standalone mic.
