Anything I could write about this song, I have said it in the introduction - which is longer than the song, so if you wish to skip it, click 07:13 .
The voice doesn't hit the places it should, but 24 hours before this I was in hospital with a stomach the size of a small airfield, and what felt like a tiger cub using my intestines as a scratch post, so believe me, anything above a croak in F-sharp is a victory! There is a second take, that has a better vocal [and no intro], if you care to check that out, if not, I will put the lyrics below, that way you'll be able to sing it in your head instead of me in your ears.

Take 3 from the third session on 'Exit Wounds', after which I transferred to electric guitar. This song seems to have a lot of fans - I guess we've all been here.
This is technically gremlined, the guitar pickup not working, but this is the closest [recorded] version to how the song came to me, picking up pace, and steam, as the verses progress, so I thought I would upload it, rather than leave it in the vault.

A chunk taken from a jam session. A very loose hour, nothing either complete or technically adept, but ask any muso, sometimes you just wanna make a noise. I thought I would take this section and load it since this is the only time in 20 years I have played [er - sic] 'No Return', albeit only half of it, and for whatever reason, I had a sudden urge to play a somewhat full-throated 'Where The Hard Wind Blows', the only time I have ever played it electric, even as a mess about. I only managed 4 verses, but hey, not bad for a 61-year-old with terminal PND.

This is Take 13, and it has been a long time since I worked on a new song so much. This is the first electric take, and I used a hard tone on it, to reflect the subject matter.
All versions of this song have a slightly (and in some cases not so slight) different arrangement, because I envisaged, and constructed it in less of a 'standard' song route. It doesn't follow a set tempo or level, but each version alters and alternates, the guitar being a means of pronunciation rather than accompaniment. It compresses attention to the lyric, makes it more claustrophobic.
Seperately, the song doesn't end quite how one would expect; the final chord changes according to how the song has been played, and the final verse is not quite a full stop, but somewhat of an ellipse. Because there is no resolution. In the 18 hours since I wrote and recorded this, the lyric applies to 10,000 fresh instances, probably in the UK alone.
It's a hell of a bad world.
