This doesn’t need to be said to the musicians out there, but for all of you who don’t play an instrument, I will answer a question that might have crossed your mind already. What’s the deal with musicians making funny faces when they perform? Is that part of showmanship or is it just that every musician is weird?
Even though I can’t really argue that not every musician is weird, that’s not the reason for the faces. In reality, they are an involuntary physical manifestation of how “lost in the music” we can become at times. The more absorbed we are in our performances, the more likely it would be for us to be making funny faces. And because of that, most of the times when it happens, we don’t even notice it.
Playing music can be entrancing in a way that not many more activities can, and I absolutely love this about it.
What other activity can get you “lost in the moment” while doing it?
