512 Audio Limelight Dynamic Mic Review / Test (vs. SM7b, Podmic, AT2040, RE20)
Today I review the new dynamic broadcast mic from 512 Audio, the Limelight. If you’re unaware, 512 Audio is a spin off or subsidiary or something of Warm Audio. This is a very ribbon sounding dynamic microphone with a very powerful low and low mid section. It does a good job at background noise rejection and room rejection but suffers in terms of shock rejection.

Today I review the Lauten Audio LS208, an end address condenser microphone for podcasting and broadcasting. It offers impressive side and rear rejection (for a condenser), as well as multiple high pass and low pass filters to tailor the sound to fit your voice. The mic does tend to be a bit on the sibilant side, suffer from less than optimal plosive rejection, all while being a bit quiet for a condensers (-46dB sensitivity). Today we compare the Neumann TLM102 and Neumann TLM103 to determine what the differences are and which one I like the best. On the TLM103 you’ll find 6dB higher output signal, 5db lower self noise, a less drastic bass roll off (high pass) and more prominent presence and air frequencies. The TLM103 is also significantly less "microphonic", meaning it picks up less bumps from the desk and bumps of the microphone/boom arm. MISSING FROM VIDEO: I should have mentioned that I think both microphones sound great, but have a rather different tone to them. The conclusion here was difficult for me to arrive at. I had to be very picky to decide, and I even switched the conclusion a few times. Today I review a streamer microphone from Elgato, the Wave DX. This mic offers a very bright and clear sound without much to support it in the lower frequencies. It does do a fairly good job at plosive rejection, but it suffers quite a bit from shocks and isn't able to reject those. If you're looking for a very bright sounding mic then this may be the right pick for you. Today I review the Lewitt LCT240 Pro, which is an Audio Technica AT2035 Competitor. This is the mic that Glenn Beck & The Blaze uses (I’ve been asked A LOT what their mics are). This is a detailed and clear sounding microphone, with a healthy proximity effect, that avoids sounding nasally. Today we’re looking at the Beyerdynamic M 201 TG, a hypercardioid dynamic instrument mic. It’s good for live instrumentation if you’re looking for a warmer, less treble boosted tone. What I think it’s most interesting for is spoken word in the studio because it gives you a warmer tone with a good amount of clarity, however, the biggest obstacle in that use case will be the plosives.
