CrossKrush on Xbox One - Game play and Review
It is really hard to describe CrossKrush, it is a little bit Tetris, a little bit Bomberman and a whole lot addictive.
You can play as one of two elderly people, Henry or Florence, they are a married couple who are frustrated that busy highway has been built in front of their home.
So they have decided to take it upon themselves to attack and blow up as many cars as they can. Ok so the premise of the story is a tad bizarre, but that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
Despite the images and trailer making the game look complicated and busy, it is in fact a super simple game, you start off with one of the two characters, you are on a road which is separated into lanes, and vehicles slowly move towards you in blocks, you then click on a section of the road, it turns green, as the cars move down, when a car is over the green area, you click a button and the car explodes! Simple right. And what's more you can even whack cars with your walking stick (cane), although it doesn't do a lot of damage, hit a car enough times and it will explode.

"Pile Up!" is a strategical building game which you need to build houses, fulfil your peoples’ requests and manage your risky buildings with different ways in a small land. But don’t let your guard down in this chill environment, we only get you relaxed with these beautiful songs just to see you destroy everything you have been building.
Your main goal is to increase the population of the city with risky buildings as much as you can, so you can unlock new technologies and new buildings while days go by. And to use those new buildings, you build factories! Every different factory will give you their own type of buildings so you can pile up your city.
• House factories grant you houses so you can increase your population while requirement factories grant you buildings that can supply your peoples’ needs.
• You can build support factories which grant you buildings to support your city to be stronger and more versatile.
• And if you want to spice things up advantage factories will grant you special buildings; which if you use them right, you will greatly improve. If you don’t; well, citizens are already familiar with death. But not too much as I would say.
• Anyways, finally if you complete certain missions or pass certain thresholds, you will get to pick a special building that will bend the game’s rules like destroying buildings and bringing them more powerful from the death! You can get the same special building up to three times to improve its effect.
So, with all of these buildings it’s up to you how you want to pile up your city! Try different combinations of buildings, praise what have you created with all of that randomness, place that one building just to the right place, cover up your mistakes, learn what do those buildings do from The Architect's Handbook and find creative ways to take control of your city’s growth just to lose it all because of an another building you forgot that you put it somewhere risky. Yeah, fun stuff.

This comes from the 16 mm Data Acquisition Camera mounted in the lunar module. The camera had multiple settings; it was set to normal speed for this occasion, and was later set to one frame per second to save film for later footage, including Buzz and Neil setting up the American flag.
I was surprised to see this as I didnt even know it existed. It gives a different perspective on some of the most famous footage in history! You can see Buzz reflected in the lander window, and even hear Houston telling him how to set camera.
The sequence of events shown is fascinating. You can hear Neil say he is opening the MESA, the Modular Equipment Storage Assembly. The movie camera that took the footage of his actual first step on the Moon was in there (some Moon Hoax twinkies love to ask who took the movie of Neils step, never bothering to, yknow, look it up. I guess typing stuff into Google is too hard for them). It was aimed at the bottom of the ladder, so Neil would be in its field of view when he walked off the footpad.
Next, he takes a hop from the lowest rung down to the footpad. He then hops back up to the last rung, to make sure he can get back off the pad. If he had trouble, he could talk to Houston and work out what to do.
He then observes the surface, noting the dust. He tested it a bit with the toe of his boot to get a better look at it.
Then, of course, he makes the most momentous step in history, separating us from a planet-bound species to one that strides across worlds.
The Apollo Lunar Surface Journal has a QuickTime clip that has both the MESA and DAC cameras with the footage synchronized, which is fascinating to watch. You can see when he deploys the MESA, which happens at around the same time he jumps down and back up from the footpad. After that, well, you know the rest.
and geez. Watching it made me choke up again, for real. Wow.

Back in the 1980s we seemed to have one "run and gun" game after another, these were perfect arcade games, put your 10p in and play to your hearts content, classics like #Commando and #IkariWarriors were often found not just in arcades, but in your local chippy. Well fast forward nearly 40 years and we have Thunderflash, a game that is inspired by these great games.
You are dropped into a warzone, and through top-down viewpoint, you have to fight your way through a seemingly never-ending horde of enemy fighters, drones, vehicles and bosses, to try to free "The Kashmir" from a criminal organization known as "Bloody Wolf".
As you play you will collect better and more powerful weapons, pick up gold and medals, and generally try to stay alive while destroying the enemy.
You can play solo or with a friend.
The controls are simple, your stick or pad controls the movement, and two buttons control your normal fire, or rockets. And that is it. You fire in the direction you are running in, just like the classic run and gun games of the 80s. Something that younger gamers might find a bit tricky to masters. It is not just top-down view though, there is a scrolling left to right view on some levels, as well as other levels that might have you driving a speed boat, or a motorbike. It gives a nice bit of variety to the gameplay.
Everything is pretty straight forward, there is a normal mode or a hardcore mode. Check out the video I put together below for a selection of the different types of level you will play.
There is also a survival mode, where you are in one room and enemy after enemy spawns, and you just have to survive as long as you can, as well as a Boss mode, whereby you can take on bosses you have beaten in the main game.
The Good
If you are old enough to remember the classic run and gun games from the mid 80s, then you will take a lovely trip down nostalgia lane with Thunderflash, I can imagine this game fitting in really well at the arcade.
The Bad
Although retro graphics are the in thing right now, I feel like a slightly larger pallet of colours for this game would have improved the overall look, that said, this game is a retro style game, so not sure I should complain too much.
Overall
I was a big fan of Commando in the mid 80s, I spent all my pocket money playing it, this game brought back some fond memories for me. I love it.
I score this a Retrotastic 8/10
