Affinity Designer shapes and fountain fills

In this video I look at some of the controls that you get with some of the shapes that you can put into a Affinity Designer. With the cog you can change the size of the teeth and also the size of centre circle and you can even change the size of the notch. You don't get so many possibilities for change when you're using the donut shape. It all depends upon which shape you're using and how complicated that shape is.
Fountain fills in Affinity Designer
There are a few different fills that she can use in the Fountain fill in this application the most common one used is going to be the linear fill but the radial fill is also quite interesting. I have never been out to find a use for the conical fill although I suppose it is handy to have it therefore that weird occasion. Using the gradient filled you can also put in a bitmap and in this video I show you how I added a photo inside the cog shape.

I like to use DayOne to keep track of work that I've done with my computer such as when I have made changes to various parts of the system. When you are doing lots of fitting and twiddling it is good idea to keep track of what you have done and what you haven't.
Some people use DayOne for business purposes such as keeping track of time that needs to be billed to clients. Then again you could just use it for a personal diary and I expect there are people like writers that would use it for things like just getting ideas down out of the head.
As you know I am a slider from the Mac and iOS platforms to Android and seeing as I am very happy with using Dayone on the Mac and also with my iPad - I don't really want to have to find a different application on Android and have my journalling notes split up into two different places.
So the problem to solve is how to get journal entries into DayOne on the Android platform. I did think that I would have to send emails to myself and then to use some Mac automation to extract the text and maybe photos from email into Dayone. Then I found another way of doing it where the transport of the text from android to iOS is taken care of by using Dropbox. So all I needed then was to have a way to automatically take text out of a Dropbox file on my Mac and have it put into Dayone.
Another problem to be solved is how to get journal entries from posts that are made to the social networks such as Google plus, Facebook and Twitter - but we will leave that to another day.
I am going to use Draft on my Android devices, I have the application installed both on my Nexus 7 and also the Galaxy S3. The files are automatically synchronised into Dropbox and I have found that within seconds the file is available on my Mac in the Dropbox folder that is used to by Draft.
I have created a macro in keyboard Maestro which is triggered either by a specific time each day and I have chosen 11:30 PM and I also have a manual key combination that I can use at any time of the day. If you don't have keyboard Maestro then you could probably work out how to do this also using Automator. To be honest though I have often found that keyboard Maestro is more reliable.

Talking and driving the Nissan Leaf. Love the Apple CarPlay. It means I can continue listening to what I was enjoying in my ears before I got in the car.
Apple Maps is not as good as Google Maps but I like better than the maps of the car. Looking forward to having Waze when iOS12 comes later this year. Waze is a drivers app rather than just a maps app.More information for the road.
Infrastructure in Europe for car charging on longer trip Is the electric car infrastructure good enough. I have been lucky so far but I wonder if I will experience the flatbed of shame one day. I think the people who ran out of petrol will the same who run out of electrons. Forgetting to fill the tank. With a long journey an electric car driver will plan so there are options along the route.

Yet another trip to Barcelona to do a road trip. Really just because I wanted to go out and drive my car. My excuse was that I wanted to go out and check a view of the CHAdeMO charges around Barcelona. I don’t want to be in a situation where I’m in Barcelona and not sure of how to find the next charging point. It’s hard enough driving round the city with all the traffic and not really knowing where you’re going. Even when you have GPS and the Waze application it can be a little bit stressful just to find exactly where the electric vehicle charging point has been placed.
On this latest trip to Barcelona I went to the first charging point on my list and it wasn’t working. Then I went to the shopping centre La Maquinista. It was a chance to go and visit the Apple Store and see the latest iPad Pro and MacBook Air computers. I also wanted to check to see if the destination charges within the shopping centre were working. In my previous two visits to the shopping centre they were out of order. The spaces were only any good for having a parking spot near to the entrance to the shopping centre. Things weren’t any better with this visit and the charges were still out of action.
The next public electric vehicle charger I went to was at Sant Andreu. It was placed behind a bus station and next to a metro entrance. I did have to wonder what was going on with the directions as I had to go slightly past the charger to turn in and get to the charging bays. This time I was successful in getting plugged in and charged up. I stayed there for about 20 to 30 minutes and we pulled in about 11 kWh.
Moving onto the next charge point which was not too far away. This was next to a market and was out of action. I did have a nice time talking to a little old man who was full of questions about my electric car and how to charge the battery up. I find quite a lot of people are interested and have questions.
Onwards towards the next charging point and a place where I could find somewhere to eat and use the facilities. The CHAdeMO charger was next to a roundabout which was extremely busy with traffic. I nearly missed the charging bay, but I was able to change lanes and pull in. I didn’t plan to stay too long at the public charger, although I had to due to the food taking a long time to be prepared. When I got back I had a nearly full battery. I wasn’t therefore a massive amount of time, and I don’t think anybody was impacted by my extended stay.
Although I haven’t had much luck with some of the Nissan dealerships for getting charged I wanted to try out one in Barcelona. This one had the unfortunate name of Otto Diesel. Still didn’t need any charging the battery so I just jumped out o

It is so easy to have all of an email encrypted and signed using Apple Mail or with the Thunderbird application but there maybe occasions when you only want a part of something to be encrypted in a message.

NoStylus - http://nostylus.com/automatic-journaling-with-social-diary-everyday-me-hojoki/ - I really liked the use of the journalling application Day One but in this video here I am looking at applications that let you do some journalling and also brings in information from your social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. The application that does that for you is going to be either Everyday.me or you might use an application called Social Diary.
In this video I look at how you might use an application like Hojoki which connects up to more places but not all of the social networks. So it does connect up to Twitter but it doesn't connect in with Facebook. On the other hand, Hojoki will connect into some things that you don't expect such as Google drive, Evernote, GitHub and the application Pocket. This application is very good for group working on a collaboration and could be particularly useful for developers working in a team.

Affinity designer version two and how to use symbols. Symbols are objects which can have multiple instances. When you edit one of them all the others will change their colour shape properties or whatever. This will save you a lot of time when you’re editing in Affinity Designer. It’s really easy to create symbols when you use the symbols panel in Designer. To have the symbols multiplied all you have to do is try them out of the symbols panel onto your page.
If you have text as a symbol you can add more characters to it or change the characters in which ever way. Change the font and the attributes of the text. Whatever type of object you can rotate, change size and even move nodes and alter the shape fundamentally in the design. It’s also possible to add fancy effects from the effects panel. Add shadows, 3-D, contours as well as changing the colour as you need to.
If you have a very complicated design with multiple symbols in multiple positions within the design it only makes sense to use symbols. If you have to change the attributes of any other symbols it easy to do in one place rather than having to search through a large file and possibly miss one or two.
