"The Atlantan" Jimmy lost everything, including his mind. A film by Andrew Treglia From the Director: We made 'The Atlantan' for $13,000 out-the-door with the help of many talented friends. The script was nothing more than a 50 page outline when we went into production. At the time, I was dying to make a film, and didn't want to wait any longer. Also, at this budget and being my first film, I wanted to take full advantage this opportunity to creatively explore in any direction that inspired me. Atlanta is a character in this film, and we shot at over 30 locations - which is insane for a budget this small. It is a personal, dark film, and not for everyone. I do believe that It is a real film, though, not low-budget garbage - whether you like it or not. After having been available exclusively on Amazon for several years, I decided to just release it to the general public. Amazon's business model has become a giant screw-over to creators in the film space. They've twice changed the payout model, and our revenues are now down a whopping 90% for the same view count. So fuck it, here it is. If we get 1k views, I'll do a director's commentary with the DP, Chris Lockerman. A director's commentary would be fun for this film because it was one helluva wild ride making it. I hope audiences enjoy and/or get something from the film. I also hope that it might inspire another potential micro-budget filmmaker on the fence to go ahead and pull the trigger. You'll spend the money anyway, might as well spend it on something you love... Short Synopsis The “Atlantan” is an intimate portrait of a tortured mind. Jimmy Donora is a man who tries to do good for the community as a substance abuse counselor. In an instant, he has his reality shattered by the death of his wife and son in a freak accident. His past life gone, Jimmy finds himself lost and adrift in despair. Plagued by allegorical nightmares, his depression soon descends into violent, self-medicating madness. As Jimmy acts out, he haphazardly attempts to explain the logic of his choices through his bizarre, cocaine and alcohol laced narration. In the end, as this complex ‘hero’ finds his version of purifying catharsis, we realize that this story is about more than him: It’s about inner-­city Atlanta, a dilapidated wasteland rife with lost souls­ and, more importantly, a place where those lost souls are free to find themselves.
