I make some chicken and potatoes on the 4th of July as an experiment with an app for my Samsung Galaxy S5. Christopher Walken showed up. I am using for the first time a smart phone video camera and an app called vlog snap cam that allows me to pause the recording of the camera and then restart the recording and have one file. It also allows the user to switch from the front camera to the back and front again. Unfortunately, it did not keep the audio in sync. I think the app still has some bugs in it but it looks promising for DIY videos. I love the ability to pause a recording and start again and just have one file. I read a lot of reviews of the vlog snapcam app and a lot of people said they lost recordings. I have made several so far and have not lost any. I made one for 12 minutes though and when done not only did it just make one file of 12 minutes but it also saved all the individual clips as files which was confusing. The audio out of sync can be fixed in an editor but the reason I am experimenting with the app is to see if I can make videos without editing. I will post more info on the vlog snapcam app as I find out how well it performs over time. I hope all of you are enjoying your holiday and have all of your fingers by tomorrow. By the way, this is not one of my regular cooking videos, it is a review of the vlog snapcam app for the Android Galaxy phone. But this is an excellent way to slow cook chicken. One of my favorites in fact. In the end, the potatoes are a golden yellow from the chicken fat and turmeric that I forgot to add in the video. This is my attempt to make 3 meals for a total cost of one dollar. It is for fun and to learn more about cooking. I am not trying to prove anything or make any point. I got the idea from Atomic Shrimp. I like to watch Atomic Shrimp. He has a wide variety of topics on his popular channel. We Youtubers are told that becoming popular making videos on many topics is impossible to do- we need to stick to one subject. Apparently, Atomic shrimp did not get the message. As a fellow Youtuber who also makes videos on everything imaginable I am inspired by Atomic Shrimp and hope maybe one day my channel will get more popular too, but in the meantime, I am having a lot of fun making videos on many topics. I also appreciate all of my viewers very much. My food challenge is different from Atomic Shrimp. He took a one pound coin, which is about $1.38 US, and made three meals from what he could find in the store in one day, or take off of people plates left behind in a restaurant or from foraged items or condiments asked for at restaurants. Thanks to Covid, I do not feel like spending a lot of time in the store or in any restaurant trying to obtain the lowest-cost food item. I go to the store at 7 AM once every 5 weeks. I get in and get out. Also, I am too introverted to ask workers in a restaurant to give me extra items like Atomic shrimp did. My challenge allows me to use any food bought before and portion it out by weighing it on a scale to get the exact cost. I realize a person with only one dollar will not have access to the food reserves I may have and going to a store with one dollar will be a harder challenge. However, everyone has advantages and disadvantages. Some of us live in rural areas where there is plenty to forage or room to grow food. Some of us live in areas like Atomic Shrimp where there are stores to buy single items at low prices. We all use what we have. I have few forage or garden opportunities but I do take full advantage of foods on sale I can store. I can remember not having any food and almost no money, which is a major reason I now buy a lot of food when it is on sale to eat later. I did not charge for water or electricity or spices or condiments. Foraging, hunting, fishing, or gardening is allowed. Gluten is welcome. Having said all of that, it was a very fun challenge and I learned a lot. I learned I like carrots a lot more than I ever imagined and was pleased with how versatile they were. I learned I have been using way too much cheese, I can get a very tasty meal using half of the cheese I normally use. I also used half the amount of oil in my mac and cheese. This challenge cost me $1.27 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Do you spend a lot of time on YouTube? I know I did. Hours and hours every day. Seven days a week. But not anymore. I decided to be more focused on what I was giving my time to on YouTube. I still watch a lot of YouTube. However now I watch a lot more efficiently and with purpose. Don't get me wrong, I still entertain myself watching YouTube and enjoy it just as much but now I have more time to watch even more if I wanted to. I recently decided to research ways I could save more time and make the time I have available more productive and rewarding. I find the subject of saving time and time management fascinating. There are an endless amount of books and videos on how to make money but surprisingly not that many about saving time and the ones that are available are either focused primarily on the workplace or they are simple commonplace ordinary bits of advice everyone knows that is repeated endlessly. This video on saving time on YouTube is going to be one of many chapters in a book I'm writing on how to save time. I hope to have the book available by October.
