In recent years, Microsoft hasn't done a very good job with updating Windows 10. Even those updates that are 'fully tested' often end up royally screwing up some computers. Everyone just assumes that a new Windows Update means crashes, blue screens, and stuff that doesn't work anymore. What if you could just roll back to before the update, and prevent it from installing again? Well, you can! And it's much easier than you think...

Power factor is one of those things that sounds really complicated, but it's pretty simple when you boil it down. And every now and then, knowing a little something about power factor comes in handy.
In short, power factor is the ratio of the real power consumed by a gizmo to the apparent power needed to be generated and delivered by the power company.
The reason for this "extra power" from the power company is the inductance and capacitance in your gizmo that results in shifting the AC current sine wave away from being perfectly in sync with the voltage sine wave.
You don't really need to understand HOW all that works; just watch the vid to see why it matters!

Power banks, portable USB chargers, battery banks... Whatever you want to call them, they're very handy for charging your gizmos on the go. The only trouble is that almost all of them take AGES to recharge themselves. Even though many models support Quick Charging of your gizmos, the power bank itself usually only gently sips juice from the wall outlet as it leisurely refills its internal lithium-ion cells. Typically, you may have to wait upwards of 14 HOURS for a full recharge! That's not very convenient. Enter the RAVPower 26800mAh USB C Power Bank - with 30W quick-charging INPUT for a full recharge time of only 4-5 hours! But the fun doesn't stop there...

I've been using dumbphones for awhile now, but I started to miss some smartphone features. Then a friend of mine mentioned LineageOS again. I decided to take the plunge... And I'm glad I did! It IS possible to have a relatively private smartphone without all the Googley madness - even in this day and age. But it does take a bit of time, patience, and some technical know-how. Note that I don't walk through the entire installation process here since it's particular to your specific phone. But at least you'll be headed in the right direction!

This one's a double header! First, I quickly review the new Nokia 2720 Flip 4G dumbphone. Then, I talk a bit more about exactly why dumbphones that run KaiOS are really NOT smartphones. Did I mention that the 2720's HUGE buttons are an absolute joy to use? Or that it's the first phone (of any kind) that I've had in years that actually fits in my pocket?

This isn't exactly "techie" in the traditional sense, but it does involve friction, and it's super-handy to know. Actually, I thought everyone knew about this, but apparently not.
What to do when your drawers are sticking? Easy! All you need is any old type of candle, a hand, and a mostly-functioning brain. Anyway, I couldn't resist making this one of those "Life Hack" videos. I hope this tip transforms your life in ways you cannot possibly imagine. ?

If you're like me, you tend to go a little Clark Griswold every Holiday Season. My current favorite holiday lighting apparatus is those sassy red/green laser projectors.
But how do they work?
It turns out they're actually pretty simple. Lasers, diffraction gratings, and Bob's your Uncle.
You'll have to forgive the explanation of diffraction gratings. The truth is, it's a hairy subject involving diffraction, refraction, constructive interference, destructive interference, blah blah blah...
Don't want to make anyone's head explode on Christmas Eve, including mine. But, you get the idea!

These days, WiFi is everywhere. Even your washing machine probably has it! ;)
I typically don't recommend using WiFi due to the huge amount of evidence indicating that it's probably not the best thing for your health.
But there's another reason to go back to cables:
WiFi is quite often WAAAY slower than most people think. In fact, it's very rare that you will get anywhere near the maximum speeds advertised when you buy a WiFi access point or router.
What to do, what to do?
