In this video we see Devonshire dock hall, Walney Lighthouse and the Barrow town hall. We also see an incredible amount of downward refraction. Luckily this happened below the buildings we were observing so we could still see them, as normally refraction will have the effect of blocking your view of distant objects.

Down at Anchorsholme this morning I got to contemplating my part in the flat earth movement.

FTFE asked for this debate, we have agreed on these 2 topics refraction and optical effects. Anything else I am not getting in to. Lets av it.

Zooming in on a boat at 10 miles away, from my elevation I should have been able to see the entirety of this boat. My intention was too look at Barrow in Furness, however that was completely blocked out, and using this boat for reference we can see why.
Using the globe model in this example 10 miles away from an elevation of 30 foot above sea level a poultry 7 feet of obscured should have been evidenced. Now this boat operates on the sea cleaning pipe being put in place at Anchorsolme. The boat in its entirety in seen in the thumbnail, or you can download the thumbnail here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nFURSNTn0tzmUJaa55hgl-O2LR0BI26J from my google drive. What is being hidden is far greater than this 7 feet, it is more akin to 50+ feet being hidden.
But hidden... hidden by what? What blockage? Curve of the earth?? Nono the math does not work for this, far too much is being hidden, you cannot even see the giant digger on it. How can it be explained?
Well, considering I have seen the buildings of Barrow from this exact location but from an elevation of just 4 feet... at a distance of 23.75 miles away, something else must be causing the blockage.
Well lets not beat about the bush, we have all been scared to name the dreaded word refraction, well no more, ballers co-opted this phenomenon and we stayed away from it. Well no more, this is the REAL effects of refraction, the narrow band of air seen at the vanishing line over water. It causes compression, mirroring, and distortion. This isnt a universal effect seen every time, no, one at a time is the norm, it just depends on the conditions and your viewing angle.

On another testing day filming, I was confident I saw and filmed the Isle Of Man, My camera struggled to focus, but guess what. :)
Elevation approximately 322ft as I was level with the turbine hubs and they are 322ft above sea level. Anyhow, with a bit of tweaking and working out, it would appear we are seeing down to at least 250ft if not lower. Curve calcs say 1400+ feet should be missing, its a bad day for globers.
With my new P1000 hopefully we can see much better. Im also looking to get some polarizing filters as they really should burn through the haze, but they are expensive so will see.
