About 45 activists were arrested as the third "FTP" protest against the police marched throughout New York City Friday night.
The protesters demand that public transportation be made free and that the NYPD itself be abolished.
The protest began in Grand Central Terminal, where police threatened to arrest anyone wearing masks. As hundreds assembled, several dozen were wearing masks. Police periodically stepped in and pulled masked protesters out, arresting them ahead of the march kicking off.
In at least one case, activists attempted to physically prevent an arrestee from being taken outside. The ensuring struggle resulted in further arrests.
The group eventually left Grand Central Terminal, chanting "How do you spell racist? NYPD!"
In the first "FTP" protest, activists had hopped subway turnstiles in the hundreds. The civil disobedience was intended to promote the group's demand that the New York subway be made free to ride.
Friday night, police attempted to prevent activists from entering the subway, sometimes pushing them away to erect barriers.
"Back the fuck up!" yelled an officer at an activist trying to get into the subway.
Dozens made it in through an uncovered entrance, either hopping the turnstiles or going through an emergency gate.
The activists spanned as far as Brooklyn, where police deployed mace on at least one occasion.

Protesters lined the approach to the Capitol as Donald Trump's motorcade arrived for his first State of the Union Address.
With the exact route of the presidential motorcade a secret, protesters split into two groups and headed for opposite ends of the National Mall. Their hope was to cover the two likeliest routes from the White House to the Capitol - on Constitution and Independence Avenues - with a "greeting" the president would be hard-pressed to miss.
On a cold and breezy night, about fifty protesters were tightly corralled by an unusually large police presence onto a corner at 3rd Street and Constitution Avenue, the closest members of the public could get to the Capitol on the north end of the National Mall.
Motorcade after motorcade sped past protesters, who jeered the officials they escorted with loud booing and chants like "we need a leader, not a creepy tweeter" and signs - including a few with elaborate LED backlighting - referenced Trump's response to Puerto Rico, the Mueller investigation, and calls for impeachment. Local anti-fascist organizers were also present.
About twenty minutes before the scheduled start of Trump's speech, a particularly long motorcade including the American-flagged presidential state car was met with yells of "fuck Trump" in unison. The northern group dispersed shortly after, with a fraction marching to the National Press Club to join a related event.
Although police were stringent in keeping protesters off the roadway before and during motorcade passes, there were no incidents or arrests on the northern route.
(Skip to final half hour of video for this part.)
On the southern route, about a dozen protesters remained for about a half hour after the motorcade. One solitary pro-Trump protester from South Carolina held a Trump: Make America Great Again flag and a sign reading, "Mr. President, those that are for you, are greater, than those that are against you." About a dozen police separated the Trump supporter from the protesters for another half hour.

Following a two-year hiatus from street activism and two trips to Ukraine, former Boogaloo movement figure Mike Dunn is planning an armed rally tomorrow against the Gloucester, Virginia Sheriff's Department.
He spoke to News2Share as well as an NBC documentary crew about his planned return to activism tomorrow while at an Italian restaurant.
Dunn describes his group "is gonna deliver a warning to that sheriff, to his office, and to anybody who wishes to support him and his jack-booted thugs that he employs" over a recent incident where four people were arrested for carrying firearms to a school board meeting.
"Breaching the constitution will not be tolerated," he told the NBC crew and News2Share.
If cops try to arrest Mike Dunn and his crew, he says: "we will defend ourselves in the way that the 2nd Amendment intended for us to do."
"What does that mean?" News2Share asked.
Dunn: "Don't Antifa me now and be like 'are you going to kill police?'"
News2Share: "Are you?"
Dunn: "We will defend ourselves to any means necessary to pretend any of my boys, my brothers, constitutional citizens, being arrested."
Dunn says he's stressed about the armed rally he plans to lead against the Gloucester County Sheriff tomorrow and "I'm willing to defend my boys to the point of this [a cheesesteak] being my last dinner."
Some of his guys "had their wills notarized" he says and he has "written notes to my loved ones."
The incident that precipitated this conflict between the apparently resurgent Boogaloo movement and the Gloucester Sheriff's occurred a little over a month ago when Trevor Herrin and three others were charged with carrying firearms on school property: https://twitter.com/FordFischer/status/1679917170447339520
Trevor Herrin himself doesn't plan to be at the demonstration on Saturday spawned by his arrest, but he did send News2Share this statement before turning himself in in July (and being released): https://twitter.com/FordFischer/status/1679918182943817744
He calls the charges erroneous and "targeted political retribution."

Former Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich spoke out at Sunday's "Rage Against the War Machine" rally in Washington DC.
"In blowing up the Nord Stream Pipeline, this government has deliberately circumvented Article 1 of the US Constitution, the authority of congress to make war," he alleged.
The State Department has celebrated the Russian Pipeline's sabotage but denied involvement.
