Located between the last stretch of the Andes Mountain Range and the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, capital of the Province of Tierra del Fuego. Its name comes from the Yámana language and means "bay that looks to the west". The foundation of the city is recognized from the creation of the Naval Subprefecture of Ushuaia on October 12, 1884.
From its beginnings as a military post and prison, Ushuaia developed through the decades until it became a tourist destination of international level.
