Wakkanai, Hokkaido // Exploring Japan's Remote North // Vlog 6

Just spent the last few days exploring Wakkanai City, Hokkaido. It's the northern most city and train station in Japan and a short drive from Cape Soya, the northernmost point in all of Japan. There are direct ferries to Sakhalin Island in Russia - in Russia's Far East.
While in Wakkanai, we did an amazing Kimono Experience, went snow shoeing in the Serobetsu Wetlands, drove through a coastal National Park, took part in a tea ceremony, went to an Onsen Village and ate loots and lots of delicious food - specialities from Hokkaido!

I decided to sign up for an Indonesian food cooking class while in Ubud, Bali to learn how to make some of my fave traditional Balinese (and Indonesian) food dishes such as Balinese chicken curry, sate and sweet and sour tempeh.
Absolutely loved this experience and hopefully will try to cook this Indonesian dishes at home!

Today Janette and I explore the incredible Derinkuyu Underground City in Cappadocia, Turkey.
It's about 1-hour drive from Goreme and is an incredible underground complex that is over 8 levels deep and was once large enough to house over 20,000 people and their livestock.
This is one of the top things to do in Cappadocia and the largest excavated underground city in all of Turkey.
We also drive to a Lake Nar, a crater lake and explore Love Valley and return to Red Valley for sunset again!

We've been stopping off at some pretty amazing waterfalls on our trip around Sri Lanka and one of our fave places to swim so far has been the beautiful Aberdeen Falls.
It's a great place to stop while driving from Colombo to Hatton or Nuwara Eliya. It's about a 30 minute hike down and you can swim at the base!

Welcome to Crate Cafe, Bali - a cafe purpose built to attract the Instagram generation to Canggu. A cafe where a DJ plays a set on a Saturday morning, the tables are made from up cycled crates and there's always local art displayed on the walls.
This Canggu Insta-worthy cafe was actually built with Instagram in mind, with the owner hoping word (and pictures) and the immaculately presented food would spread like wild fire on Instagram.
And so it did...
