#officerinvolvedshooting #copshootdogwomankill #ArlingtonpoliceDepartment ARLINGTON, Texas --- By Jesse Minton Posted on Thursday, August 01, 2019 Arlington Police Department --- On Thursday, August 1, 2019, at approximately 5:17 p.m., Arlington police officers, the Arlington Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a welfare check in which the caller reported that a woman was passed out in a grassy area near Cantor Drive and N. Collins Street. The first officer arrived around 5:20 p.m. along with EMS and fire department personnel, and they were unable to locate the female. The caller contacted the officer and was able to direct emergency personnel to the location where this woman was last seen. As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also an unrestrained dog. This location was near a fence line containing a heavily wooded area behind a commercial business that includes a sidewalk area. As the officer called out to the woman, Maggie Brooks 30 years old repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking. The officer retreated backwards from the running dog while drawing his duty firearm. The officer discharged his firearm multiple times towards the dog. After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured shot to the torso. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary information leads investigators to believe the woman was struck by gunfire from the officer. The officer is assigned to the North District as a patrol officer. "Larry Hamilton, a 64-year-old who often tries to find work outside this Arlington Walmart, said he knew the homeless woman killed Maggie Brooks 30 years old by an officer as well as her boyfriend. He said they had a small brown dog and “she was real loving to the dog.” The dog “was her soul,” he said." The officer, whose name has not been released, is 25 and has been with the department seven years, police said. He started as a detention officer, graduated from the police academy in February and was cleared for field work July 21, police said. The incident was captured by body-worn camera which will be included in the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been identified. This is an ongoing investigation to determine what happened. The Phoenix Police Department has released a Critical Incident Briefing video from an officer-involved shooting at an apartment complex near Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee. The May 21, 2020 incident claimed the life of 40-year-old Ryan Whitaker. The incident began around 10:18 p.m., when the Phoenix Police Department received a domestic violence call at the apartment complex. According to the 911 call, a woman and a man, later identified as 40-year-old Ryan Whitaker, were involved in an argument. “I have a domestic dispute going on,” the caller told 911 dispatch. “I can tell they’re just at each other’s throats down there.” As the first two officers were arriving on scene, a second 911 call was received at approximately 10:44 p.m., indicating the incident had become a physical altercation and the call was upgraded to an emergency response. “It’s getting really loud and they’ve been doing it for the last hour,” the same caller told 911. “These guys have been noisy constantly. Every time I come back, these guys are noisier than hell. Always fightin’. I hear slamming of doors. I don’t know. Somebody could be getting’ thrown into a door for all I know. But I hear all kinds of banging.” The information was relayed to the responding officers. The first two officers arrived at the apartment at approximately 10:52 p.m. Both officers were wearing body worn cameras. The two officers approached the apartment door. The first officer knocked on the apartment door and announced themselves as Phoenix Police. He then stood next to a wall on the left side of the door. The second officer stood to the right side of the door. Shortly after the officer knocked on the door, Whitaker opened the door armed with a handgun, and stepped out of the apartment towards the officer on the left side of the door. Believing the other officer is in immediate danger, the second officer fired his weapon, striking Whitaker. Whitaker did not fire his weapon, which was recovered in the doorway. This entire encounter between the officers and Whitaker lasted just seconds. Ryan Whitaker was pronounced dead on the scene. No one else was injured. Conclusions about whether the actions of the officers are consistent with department policy and the law will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete. The Jones County Sheriff's Office released dash cam Body camera of a deputy involved shooting after a deputy was shot at a traffic stop on Sunday January 23-2022. In a statement Sheriff Reece wrote: "As you already know, Deputy John Kile was involved in a shooting incident early Sunday morning. After reviewing all the video evidence and discussing the case with District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale, we have compiled the following video of the incident for release. Please know the video may be upsetting for some to watch, as it contains graphic images and a little explicit language. All of the deputies and officers involved did an excellent job, doing exactly what they are trained to do in these situations. I want to recognize Deputy John Kile for his bravery and commitment, despite being shot in the chest. Even with the bulletproof vest doing it’s job, it is still very painful. Deputy Kile managed to stay in the fight and see things through until the suspect was taken into custody. I also want to recognize Deputies William Jackson and Jeff Sullivan, who assisted with the pursuit and apprehension of the suspect. Deputy Sullivan was successful in deploying stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Deputy Jackson was then able to perform a PIT maneuver, bringing the chase to an end. A special thanks also goes to Officer Terius Farley with the City of Gray Police Department, who was able to quickly join in pursuit with Deputy Kile and assist with taking the suspect into custody. We are so thankful no one was seriously injured in this incident and want to thank everyone in our community that has reached out during this time. We have received reports that he has been having issues for the past week, with several attempts made by his family to get him help. Unfortunately we hear about situations like this on a regular basis. Families are struggling to get help for loved ones with mental health issues; however, it seems all too often that these individuals fall through the cracks. Unfortunately it sometimes takes an incident like this one to show how important accessibility to mental health care really is. Our jails are not designed to be mental health treatment facilities. Our hope is that this incident brings about a much needed change in the mental health system. Hopefully our legislature can be a driving force behind this change, so that incidents like this can be avoided in the future. Milwaukee Police department released body cam, surveillance video and details of an Officer involved in fatal shooting of a suspect later identified as 49-year-old Anthony Taylor, that occurred on Saturday, February 29, 2020 On Saturday, February 29, 2020, at approximately 11:04 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers were dispatched to a subject with a gun complaint that occurred on the 300 block of West Reservoir Avenue. As officers were responding, the call was updated to a shots fired complaint. Kamesha Taylor, who was in the process of separating from her husband, was speaking with him outside the bar when he pushed her to the ground, Capt. Tom Casper said. A relative freed Kamesha, and she ran inside and hid in the basement. Anthony Taylor followed, trying to find her. A friend ended up smuggling Kamesha away in a car, according to both Casper and an interview Kamesha did with WITI-TV. Anthony Taylor approached a parked car outside the bar, looking for her. He broke the car’s window with his gun and fired one shot, Casper said. Kamesha Taylor has said her mother was in the car, trying to flee in the chaos. Surveillance footage, provided by police, shows Anthony lean into the car and a woman leap out and run away. Anthony Taylor went back inside the bar, his wife recounted, and threw chairs and choked one of her employees. He was shouting that he was going to find and kill Kamesha. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male who was armed with a firearm. During the encounter, officers fired shots at the suspect, subsequently striking the suspect. The suspect, a 49-year-old male from Milwaukee, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect´s firearm was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured during this incident. The officers involved are a 27-year-old male with 2 years of service and a 23-year-old male with 2 years of service. Per Milwaukee Police Department Standard Operating Procedure, the officers involved will be placed on administrative duty. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident.
