While exploring the South Fork Yuba River in Tahoe National Forest, looking for Emerald Pools, we were surprised to see warning signs for squirrels affected with plague in the area. That didn't deter us from seeking out these legendary swimming holes. There are upper pools and lower pools and it turns out that we found some middle pools as well. Despite the raging waterfalls in some sections, we were able to cool off in some relatively tranquil pools of this icy snow melt river.
