The yard at Shenandoah, Virginia handles much of the local freight sorting for the northern part of the H-Line between Hagerstown and Ronoake. Here we see former Southern Railway gondola car #66560 couple into a cut of empty hoppers.

An NS PSR special heads eastbound on the Cleveland Line at CP-RAVE with C40-10W #7658 and C44-9W #9183 leading with AC44C6M #4271 and C44-9W #9459 helping in the middle. It won't be long until the once ubiquitous 9000-series Dash 9's vanish from NS's rotation.
Sorry for the bad camera work, I was also taking stills and didn't have a tripod.

Saw this Hawk perching on some wires over my parking lot when suddenly it swooped down into an adjoining yard and came back up with a rat impaled in its talons. It then proceeded to fly to the top of a utility pole to consume the rat.
Sorry for the camera shake, I was hand holding at 35x zoom.
At 1:20 you can hear a freight train passing on the CSX Baltimore Terminal Sub.
Sure wish we had more of these around. The rat population is out of control.

The more things change the more they stay the same. After tens of millions in capacity upgrades north of the Rocky Mount, NC station to prevent this very situation, Amtrak Train 79, the southbound Carolinian, has to pull in and then back out of the second main track to allow Train 90, the northbound Palmetto to pass.
Heat restrictions on CSX had both trains running late and due to a variety of circumstances there was no ability for the two trains to pass properly. The same thing happened to me in 2010 at the old BATTLE interlocking that used to be about a mile to the south. The only difference was that the re-signaling effort allowed a Restricting indication to be displayed immediately after Train 90's passage. In 2010 the old Seaboard signals could only display Stop, Limited Approach and Limited Clear.
Total delay was only about 5 minutes for my Train 79. P42DC on Train 90 appears to be #11 or #17.
Here's a link to the 2010 video of Train 90 passing.
