Perhaps that doesn't make sense to you as a sound person but in this video I'll explain why it's true. Sound Speeds!

Yet again we're going to do more testing of Monoprice, Cable Matters and Amazon Basics XLR cables in this episode. This video will be different though because we're going to run the cables together over high sources of EMI and RFI to see how the noise performance of the cables are affected.

Welcome to the thirty third episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. Some sound mixers want you to using the best mic for a scene even if that means switching mics over and over again until half the scene is done. Some mixers won't let you switch mics. Back in the 1990's I was using power cables as speaker cable. Did it work? Well...

The Ambient Series 5 boom pole line replaced all previous models of Ambient boom. Many lovers of the thin Ambient 4 section boom poles were in shock because all of the Series 5 boom poles were 5 section. I say "were" because Ambient has now introduced the Slim Long and Short 4 section boom poles. I'm excited to share these new boom poles with you in this video.

We live in a world where people are constantly documenting something in their lives thru photos and video. If you record videos on your phone, you'll likely be capturing brilliant looking 4K video but the sound will be terrible. Cameras hide small microphones in places easily covered up and even if they aren't, the audio is audible but nowhere nearly as impressive as the picture.
Sound is at least half of the experience when you watch a video so you need it to sound good. People aren't always aware that getting good sound is quite easy and won't break the bank. This is why I felt the need to introduce you to an excellent choice for a video mic that you can use when vlogging, recording your kids or even Skype calling with a family member. Introducing the Deity V-mic D3.

Welcome to the fifth episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. As you know I love recording on an external recorder but many people record directly on their computers. Is recording on the computer acceptable or should you record on an external recorder? In this video I answer a viewer's question about that very topic. Most people seem to think working in film is like any other job but they are very much wrong. It takes a special breed to work in film and in this video I discussed what it's like.
Audio notes:
As with last week, I'm trying less processing than the first two episodes. The audio was processed at 40.0% on the voice side in Clarity VX Pro which is slightly more processing than last week. What are your thoughts?

Although I'm not wanting to connect the two worlds, sound and trucking, if you have any desire to see what I have been working on in the trucking world - here's what you need to know.
I started a YouTube channel months ago, that's buried deep in the YouTube servers, about my thoughts, what I'm learning, etc. So if you're interested in this vlog, I'm going want you to contribute towards it.
For the past few weeks I've been doing time lapse recordings of my daily drives and I upload them when I can. They are unlisted but I have them all in a playlist. Each drive is hundreds of miles and usually no more than 12 minutes. The only camera I have that can do this is the Insta360 X3 but it's not great with low light (see Speed Bumps) but the DJI Action 4 is much better there. It also records in a format that's ready to edit so I won't have to spend hours converting video overnight. I don't currently have the disposable income to purchase it but in the spirit of contributing to things of value, if you make a donation towards that trucking channel...
Upto $10, I'll send you a link to the my driving playlist and a 360 gallery where I take a picture of where I shut down for the night (don't get excited. It's mainly truck stops).
$10-$25: Same as above but I'll send you the link of my trucking YouTube channel so you can hear me talk for hours about what I'm doing, what I'm learning, my rants, wins, fails, etc. If you like listening to Speed Bumps at work, this may appeal as background noise. I have hours up there already and videos every few days going for at least the next 98 days.
$25+: Same as above but I'll send you the link to a truck tour I did for family and close friends.
$50+: You're crazy and I'm scared of you. A smart man would avoid you like the plague but I never said I'm smart so if you contribute this much... I can control where I stop for the day/night to a certain degree. If I happen to be driving thru your city near the end of my daily drive (that's the fine print), I will prioritize shutting down somewhere close so we can meet and hang out. I won't be able to drive to you but we could grab food nearby or just hang and talk sound. No guarantees I'll get dispatched near you or I'll be able to shut down near you but I'll make it a priority.
Remember, this has nothing to do with Sound Speeds and is for those viewers that are interested in what I have going on outside of Sound Speeds. If you contribute towards the trucking channel, all I need is your email address so I can send you what you receive.

With less than 50 hours until the Epic LIVE Stream of 2021 I wanted to give you the latest info.
The charity we're supporting has been changed to the Disabled American Veterans. You can read about them and learn more about them at: https://www.dav.org
We will be doing giveaways this year! If you're interested in the Deity S-Mic 2 or K-Tek Stingray Hip Pack, send me an email at Allen@SoundSpeeds.us. In the subject put the items you're interested in and in the body tell me why you're interested in that items and what it would mean to you to win it. I don't need a novel, just a few sentances.
I'm also going to be giving away some socks from Darn Tough. Darn Tough socks have quite literally changed the game with regards to the foot discomfort I feel on set and I'll be giving away some men's and women's socks.
Video Mantis provides premium film industry related courses taught by professionals in those crafts. VideoMantis.com is offering our viewers 10% off OVER the 50% off sale currently underway if you put coupon code: SoundSpeeds at checkout.
I'm in need of someone to standby to record the Epic Live stream if it goes over 12 hours. That way I can have it available after the stream. Unfortunately YouTube doesn't archive over 12 hours and if I record it on my computer it won't be the same or have the same layout. If you're willing to help me out, email me at Allen@SoundSpeeds.us and tell me what you can do and what your rates would be to do this.
