a quick video while i'm at work going over the Select node and just how lovely it can be. it has a lot of uses, probably more than listed here but definitely worth looking into!
Before we move on to the next series, let's finish up a few things in this one starting with a dialogue component. it's not enough to be able to look at all the characters in our town, we should have a way to speak with them also.
We'll go over how to set it up as a component so it can be added to any character we wish to speak with :D

i've seen some videos about swimming but they always recommend handling the moving up and down the same way, by creating an axis input and then adding movement based on the up vector. it always caused issues for me... but i found some fixes! no more rotating when swimming up or down and not moving.

There has been a lot of change ups between early access and 5.1, so for the first video back we're doing a beginner friendly game from beginning to end, exactly what you see in this video we will make together! we'll be using Blender and unreal engine 5.1, modeling a modular dungeon so we can customize the floor layout, adding in props and enemies, establishing our player character and his combat capabilities and going over everything from start to finish, in ONE video.
We will also be starting from a blank project, so we will put EVERYTHING together ourselves, no template this time.
Hope you're looking forward to it as much as i am, recording it will be done soon and i will be editing it into one long video with timestamps and such for ease of navigation, and if you'd like to check out the project for yourself you can download a packaged version of it from our gamejolt page to get a better idea of what to expect.
See you soon :D

One of the common level elements of a platforming game is rotating platforms, so let's set those up in a way where each one can be customizable according to our needs! we'll also show you a quick and easy way to attach pieces to the platforms in case you want one to have a launch pad on it. Next we'll set up the side to side moving platforms.

i've noticed that most tutorials about doors seem to over complicate it, and if they have keys it seems like each key door needs a seperate BP Actor... let's make one a little bit more simple, give you one door, and one collectible, that can be reused all over your map and function as any locked door. we'll also make it open automatically cause it's just more fun.

Running around in silence all the time is pretty boring... let's liven it up with some sound fx! we'll add in a Jump sound, Pain sound, attacking sound, and fix our fireballs explosion sound!
I tried to add a healing sound, like a sigh of relief when the character heals, but that's apparently not in the pack...
my bad.
hope you enjoy though :D

In this video, we'll start swapping out our characters equipment! we'll get the new weapons created, alter their stats, and spawn them on our character with the press of a button in the menu we created in the last one. we'll also make our shields interchangeable, and alter it's defensive capabilities as well, making sure all those changes are represented in our players stats menu.
(in case you were wondering, we handle swords and shields in two separate ways so that you can decide which way works best for your situation. you could create shields in the same way as swords and attach them similarly, or alter your equipped sword in the same way as the shield if that way suits you better. game design is all about finding what works for you :D)
