Flamenco is a folkloric art form that dates back over a thousand years. The musical style comes from the Andalusia region of Spain, which can be found in the Southern part of the country.
Teacher, Zach Deyo discusses how Flamenco originated, and how and why the musical style has evolved over the past 1,000 years.
You’ll find out the very earliest forms of Flamenco music, its original singing styles, and how dance and clapping rhythms were added to the genre.
Guitar was the last element to be introduced into the Flamenco, in the 1800s. And Zach will discuss why this addition has shaped and defined the sound of the region’s music.
This lesson is short, but gives you an in-depth understanding of Flamenco music and dance history. A great video to watch with kids, or simply to deepen your own understanding of this rich art form.
