Back in June of last year, as the mayors of liberal cities tried to “out-woke” each other during the George Floyd/BLM riots Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler announced that he was defunding the police department by $12 million.
He said that the money taken from the police budget would be diverted to other city departments to support communities of color. Some of the money defunded a police unit that focused on gun violence reduction.
Mayor Wheeler said back in June about why he supported defund the police:
“My privilege as a white man, my privilege as the mayor and the leader of the institutions of power in this community I believe shielded me from time to time from the many difficult and uncomfortable truths about our history and about our society.”

Ontario bureaucrat accused of scamming $11M now accused in alleged $30M fraud

A senior provincial employee alleged to have embezzled at least $11 million from the Ontario government is now accused of kickbacks in an alleged fraud worth at least $30 million, court documents show.
In an amended statement of claim approved on Friday, the province alleges Sanjay Madan received $10 million in secret commissions for steering government consulting contracts to certain companies he or an associate, Vidhan Singh, controlled.
"Over the course of the past 10 years or more, the plaintiff paid out over $25 million pursuant to the resulting [fee for service contracts]," the unproven claim alleges.

In the thin-skinned world of multiculturalism -- a Utopian dream that has failed like all Utopian dreams -- it is not surprising that British Prime Minister David Cameron stirred up a large and festering pot.
He did so by calling a spade a spade.
In a much-dissected speech to the Munich Security Conference, Cameron spoke of the need for all immigrants to "learn the language of their new home," and be educated in the "elements of a common culture and curriculum."
He wants his country to be a melting pot and not descend further into a mosaic.
Cultural mosaics create ghettos; melting pots create diverse communities.
Just look at Canada to see what the cultural mosaic envisioned as Utopian by Liberal prime minister Pierre Trudeau and you will see a disaster.
You will see David Cameron is right.
Multiculturalism is a failure not only in Great Britain, but a dismal failure here.
What we have is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial society living largely in segregation.
What we have are people who immigrated to this country decades ago yet still can't speak either English or French.
Why? Because they don't have to. They live in their Little Italy, their Chinatown, their Little India or their Little Arabia -- you name an ethnic group and an ethnic enclave will exist -- and they don't have to venture outside it because the screws have not been tightened on who we will accept as contributing immigrants.
And what ferments so often in many of these single-cultural, often state-dependent ghettos are the religious prejudices and ethnic hatreds of their homelands.
It's bad baggage.

The review wants to hear from British Columbians on three issues: speed limits on provincial highways, slower moving vehicles impeding traffic and reducing collisions between motorists and wildlife, said Todd Stone, minister of transportation and infrastructure.
"This review is not about increasing speed limits. It's about ensuring that we have the right speed limits," he said Friday in a conference call.
He said research on highway speeds shows that if the limit is set at the right level, drivers will comply with it.
"If you're not keeping up with the flow or driving beyond, you pose a greater risk to yourselves and others," he said.
Stone said speed limits will be reviewed only on longer stretches of rural provincial highways. Speed limits on provincial highways through major urban centres won't be reviewed, he said.
Starting in November, the ministry will be seeking public input at eight public forums in Kamloops, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Vancouver, Kelowna and Cranbrook.

Plastics Company Bringing Big Business to Georgia Port
A California-based plastics company has chosen the Georgia coast to open a packaging and shipping facility that will be one of the largest exporters using the Port of Savannah, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Wednesday.
Plastic Express plans to export about 25,000 cargo containers through Savannah each year. That's enough to fill roughly four big ships.
"This company in the first year will be one of the top five folks doing business with the port," Kemp told reporters at the port's docks. "This is going to be incredible for us."
Headquartered in the Los Angeles suburb of Industry, Plastic Express ships plastic and other industrial materials to customers in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.
The company plans to hire about 160 workers at its new $172 million facility west of Savannah. CEO Ray Hufnagel said the Georgia plant will export resin used in plastic pipe and other construction materials.

Legal weed stores will be 'very chic, very modern'
This is what the end of cannabis prohibition will look like in New Brunswick: An upscale showroom with black ceilings, grey walls and a once-illicit drug displayed in brightly lit glass cases.
"Think along the lines of a jewellery store. Very chic, very modern, very clean-cut lines," New Brunswick Liquor Corp. spokesman Mark Barbour says in an interview.
"That's where the product will be kept, in locked glass cases, and from there the transaction will be made and proceed to a point-of-sale area."
With less than seven months to go before recreational marijuana is legalized, provinces and territories are scrambling to come up with plans to sell cannabis.
But only scant details have emerged about what the retail experience of buying legal weed will be like.
Ottawa lawyer Trina Fraser predicts it won't be much akin to buying a bottle of scotch.
"Think more like tobacco as opposed to alcohol," she says. "It's not going to be like you'll walk in and there are samples."

Illegal border processing costs alone to exceed $1 billion, PBO report

Thousands of illegal immigrants are flooding across the border into Texas and other border states every day, but two things distinguish this wave from earlier illegal immigration waves.
First, Hondurans, Salvadorans, and Guatemalans now make up about 75 percent of illegals caught in South Texas, whereas previously most people who crossed the border illegally originated in Mexico. Second, large numbers of these illegal migrants are unaccompanied children. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that only 27% of Likely U.S. Voters now think the president is doing a good or excellent job when it comes to immigration. Vice President Joe Biden admitted to a group of young progressives on Wednesday that the “change” promised in his and President Obama’s 2008 “Hope and Change” campaign “didn’t happen,” but urged the left-wing youngsters not to throw in the towel.

Majority of House Democrats vote in favor of lowering voting age to 16
Progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives unsuccessfully pushed an amendment lowering the federal voting age to 16 as part of the H.R. 1 voting rights package on Wednesday.

New Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Supports Unlimited Abortions Up to Birth
Abortion activist Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party swept pro-abortion Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party from office in Monday’s vote in Canada. Although Harper was no friend to pro-life advocates looking for even minor protections for unborn children from abortion, Trudeau is, amazingly, even worse.
Turdeaus abortion views are so extreme that he said, last year, abortion should be more important than whether members of the Canadian parliament can vote their conscience. And he essentially prohibited pro-life members of the Liberal Party.
Leading pro-life groups are saddened by what Trudeau’s election will mean for Canada.
