With the explosion of mobile application development, there is a increasing demand for a common run-time environment across the many mobile platforms. The WAC (Wholesale Applications Community) along with the latest W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) specification HTML5 (HTML version 5) is a step in that direction. Using recent advances in widget/web application development tools and techniques such as Qt Quick and JavaScript. Using Plasma Active as a development environment we can show how to build and verify widget WAC compliancy using the online compliancy verification. This is done using the current version of Plasma-Active running on MeeGo, Mer and the upcoming Tizen platforms. Proving MeeGo, Mer and Tizen are good platforms as a basis to create WAC compliant HTML5 based web applications.

Board Bringup: LCD and Display Interfaces
Board bringup is one of the most under documented aspects of embedded development. This presentation will look at the various display technologies such as DisplayPort, DVI, LVDS, and other LCD interfacing methods with emphasis on how to bringup, debug, and validate them on new hardware. Using a case study, aspects such as interfacing timing, extended display identification data(EDID), and backlight controls will be discussed. Most embedded linux developers at some point in their career will be handed a piece of hardware that is untested. LCD bringup is one of the most challenging assignments for an embedded developer. This presentation intends to provide some core tools and methods for bringup of a new display interface. David Anders has previously presented at Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2010 with ""Board Bringup: Methods and Utilities"" and Embedded Linux Conference 2011 with "Board Bringup: Open Source Hardware and Software Tools".

by Koen Kooi, Lead developer of the Angstrom distribution.
Systemd is currently being hyped as *the* sysvinit replacement and this presentation will show why it's here to stay. A brief introduction to systemd will be given but the main focus is on showing how to integrate it into your favourite platform and how a few hours of tweaking can boot userspace into X11 in less than 1 second on the current generation of ARM chips. A comparison with slower low-end ARM chips will also be included and some design considerations when designing those low-end systems. The audience is system integrators and hobbyists that require a fast boot (e.g. robotics people). The talk will be fairly high level with a good chunk of time reserved for Q&A. The interactive presentation style has worked well for systemd presentations done by other people in the past (e.g. Lennart at LCA).
