During the Cold War, satellites were developed as American ‘eyes in space’, and their creation soon allowed for the installation of weapons in space. But Soviet engineers were prepared to counter American space installations detecting potential targets for nuclear attacks. The details of some Soviet tests are still classified. Scientists in both countries assumed there'd be a war between two superpowers. What space weapons did they create to protect themselves and destroy the enemy?
In the first episode of the new RT documentary series, City Police called Motosquad, a Russian police motorcycle unit introduce you to the world of bike cops. Police officers show you how they catch criminals on their bikes and what kind of tricks they use. The host of the documentary series is renowned Russian actor Aleksandr Nosik. He used to acting in action movies about the police, but now he experiences it for real. Aleksandr joins a police motorcycle unit and sees the hard work of the bike cops. He becomes part of a team for a day. He appears a little nervous and looking forward to it at the same time.
Aleksandr meets Vladimir, one of the motorcycle unit team. The policeman shows the actor his cool bike, nicknamed ‘Goose’. Sometimes the policemen reach 250 kph during chases! Only professional riders can handle it.
The Moscow roads are busy, and some motorists break the traffic rules. The policeman and his new partner have to stop them and give them a ticket. Aleksandr doesn’t know what to expect from his first shift with the motorcycle unit! Will he chase suspects? Or will everything be okay? You’ll find the answer if you watch the first episode, Motosquad!
Motorcycle cops first appeared in Russia in the ‘80s. Police officers on bikes became an indispensable part of the road patrol! Their manoeuvrability on crowded roads allows a bike to catch suspects faster than traditional police vehicles. The small size of bikes also helps the cops to get to accident scenes more quickly! Before spring, the police motorcycle unit members have to improve their skills and train to drive in extreme conditions.
Join the police motorcycle adventures and get to know more about their role in keeping the streets safe! There’s a new episode of City Police every Monday on the RT Documentary YouTube Channel at 14:00 GMT. Stay tuned!

Oscar and Glen find themselves in the picturesque hamlet of Tarusa, a historical conservation area on Russia’s heritage register. After strolling down a charming street lined with one-storey wooden houses, the ‘gastronauts’ walk along the bluffs overlooking the Tarusa River. While taking in a view once painted by some of Russia’s most renowned artists, Oscar decides it’s the perfect place to find a duck – and eat one.
But first, they have to shoot it! Luckily, they run into the owner of Russia’s only private gun manufacturer, who offers to help. After taking a tour of his factory, the friends choose a weapon for the hunt. They consider the most accurate rifle in the world that can hit a bullseye at 4,210 metres but are warned it would just blow the bird to bits. Oscar and Glen have great fun target shooting and running around in the woods playing Rambo, before finally bagging their duck.
To cook the duck, they go to a local restaurant owned by world-famous Italian sculptor and mosaicist Marco Bravura, who is kind enough to show them some of his amazing work. Afterwards, the ‘gastronauts’ sit down to a feast of roast orange duck stuffed with apples with their new gunsmith friend. The trio agrees – it certainly hits the mark.

Clementine Churchill was one of the most respected foreigners in the USSR. In 1941 she created the foundation to provide aid to Russia, which raised £9 million or $200 million in today’s money. She shipped medical equipment for hospitals, as well as medicine and supplies. Mrs Churchill was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and even congratulated the Soviet nation on the victory over Nazi Germany on May 9, 1945. Sadly, all her efforts to establish friendly relationships with the USSR were in vain, as the Soviet Union and the West plunged into decades of the Cold War.
