Walking in Eisenstadt in Austria, the capital of the Austrian state of Burgenland. With a population of just 15.000 this small city's most famous sight is Esterházy Palace. The baroque Esterházy palace is the starting point of my video. From there I walk through the old town center with its historic buildings and then to the huge Esterházy palace gardens. The gardens a famous spot to relax and hang out for the people of Eisenstadt. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41v56uFHi9w
Watching a bunch of cute greylag goose goslings on their way to the water. The grelag goose is the most common wild goose in Europe and parts of Asia. It spends summer in the temperate regions but will stay in the south during the cold season.
During my visit to Lake Neusiedl I was lucky to see many of the recently hatched greylag goose goslings who were jealously guarded by the mature birds. If you try to approach them the parent geese will start to hiss. So in order to not disturb them I kept my distance.
They place was full with them. That's because Lake neusiedl offers a lot of food for them and the local reed belt is a perfect place for breeding and hiding. I hope you enjoy this recording of the adorable greylag goose goslings :-)

In this video, I hike to an artificial castle ruin at the top of a small mountain located in the southern foothills of the Austrian Alps. Following a trail through a forest I come accross two chamois. These European mountain goats usually live at higher elevations in the Alps so I was suprised to see them here.
Once I made my way to the summit I explore the artificial ruins which are nice, though not very big. The view was excellent on this day. In the video you can see the Schneeberg in the distance, which translates as "snow mountain" as it is always covered in snow.
In the video you can also see that I try to keep my distance from the edge of the mountain as the cliff is about 200 m high. According to a local legend a group of Turkish invaders was chased over the cliff and fell to its death in the 16th century.

In this video, I explored Rehberg Castle, an abandoned place close to the Austrian city of Krems. The castle's remains mainly consist of derelict walls and towers. The stronghold is not very big but it still was fun to discover its hidden secrets.
After walking around in the stronghold for some time, I followed a path that lead me into a nice forest. From there, I made my way to a vineyard.

Exploring the old town of beautiful Rust am See in Austria. This small city is located next to lake Neusiedl in the state of Burgenland. Due to its close proximity to the lake, Rust is famous for the many Storks who built their nests on top of the hisoric town buildings.
The entire picturesque old town area of Rust am See in Austria is now under preservation. The numerous town houses from the 16th to the 19th centuries have well-tended Renaissance, Baroque or historicist facades.
In this video, I follow the main road leading through the old town of Rust am See. As you can see, the place is not very big and after a short walk I arrive at the harbour. Because of the ongoing lockdown there are no boats.
Even though it is small, Rust am See in Austria offers quite a lot for visitors. Located in a wine growing region you can enjoy some great wine and food here. Many cyclists visit the city every year when they circle around the lake. Because of the lake there's also a lot of wildlife (mostly birds) that visitors can watch.

Taking a walk in the late afternoon in summer when the wine yards above the city are flooded by sunlight.
For this walk I take some backstreets and secret passages in the neighborhood. My way leads me to a nearby hill which is a favorite destination for the locals. However, on this sunday afternoon I don't meet any other people.
Following the road upwards and walking towards the light felt a little bit like going towards heaven. Unfortunately, due to the light the camera had some problems with the auto focus.. The road cuts into the soft soil and there are a lot of small holes and caves on both sides of the street.
After following the way to the top of the mountain I enjoy the view of the city and explore some of the vine yards. This is a famous wine growing area that produces some of the best white wines in Austria.
