Antique Seikosha Wall Clock Repair Pt 1, updated version
Undertaking the repair of an early 1900's antique Japanese Seikosha Wall Clock. In this first episode everything in and on the case is removed. A really nice clock, seems to be well made. My name is Ab, and although I primarily have antique American clocks, I'm really enjoying and enjoying this Japanese clock, and I invite you to join me as we take a closer look!
Finally got around to finishing the case work. Had to make some parts by hand, put in new glass in the door, etc and finish the case with hand rubbed wax polish. My name is Ab and I thank you for joining me in my journey in clock repair.
Early electric clocks utilized terms like spin-start, synchronous, self-starting, bichronous. I try to explain what these terms mean and show examples. Some early electric clock history is covered as well with prominent characters like Laurens Hammond and Henry Warren briefly discussed. My name is Ab and I find the early history of electric clocks to be very interesting and welcome everyone who would like to spend some time with me on this subject!
I enjoy learning about every clock I buy but this one is a mystery as I don't know who made it. The movement is New Haven but it's not original to the clock. If you know the answer please let me know in the comments below! My name is Ab, and I thank everyone for allowing me to share my passion for old clocks with others.
Another clock to be repaired in the future but take a look at this unique clock made by Seth Thomas for the Masonic Lodge in 1934. This is more of an award clock but in the video I consider it in the category of advertising clocks which are worth more. This isn't an area I'm an expert in, just using me best judgment, but historically, it is a very interesting clock! My name is Ab, and even though this is an older video, I hope you might join me in my appreciation of old clocks.
Many Gilbert Clocks have 1807 on the dial and some people think the clocks are actually that old!! Time to cut through the confusion. The William Gilbert Clock Company did not start putting 1807 on their clocks until the 1920's in what was an attempt to make their company seem older that it was. That's the short answer. My name is Ab, and everyone is most welcome to join me as we learn a few things about Gilbert Clock Company history.
Mainspring winders are an essential tool for serious clock repair and are quite expensive. In this video I show the one I made from odds and ends. I don't have all the video regarding construction but I think more than enough is shown for a good understanding of it. The design currently is for loop end open mainsprings. In the future I plan to add a feature for working with hole end barrel springs. My name is Ab, and I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video, and hope you have a great day!
The movement from the Seikosha wall clock is taken completely apart and I try to describe what is going on for the benefit of people new to clock repair, Japanese clocks, or both. My name is Ab, and I invite you to join me as we try to get this wonderful old clock back into working order!
