In my series "Rogue Presents", we are going to spend an hour taking a look at a game near and dear to my heart. The goal of this series is to expose viewers to games they have likely overlooked by giving them a brief introduction to it.
Today's game is "Below the Root". This was the very first game I ever fell in love with when I played it at six of years of age on my family's Apple II. It was surprisingly advanced for its time as it contains a fully open world with metroidvania like exploration mechanics. It even has a decent storyline and some RPG like stats to go along with it. All in all it is a surprisingly advanced game given that it was released in 1984. It's no wonder that playing this game as a kid led me to a life long love affair with gaming.
Note: In this video are exploring the Commodore 64 version of the game rather than the Apple II version. The reason being is that the graphics and sound are not only better in the C64 version, but that I haven't got all the kinks worked out with Apple II emulation on my gaming rig just yet. Nevertheless, I highly recommend that if you want to play this game, you play the C64 version as the Apple II and the PC versions are both decidedly inferior (though the PC version is by far the worst).
Our deep dive into the Kings Quest series continues, this time with the fourth game in the series. It's using an entirely new game engine, so how does it measure up? Let's find out.
This is the first part of a two part series dedicated to playing the final game (okay not really, but I don't care about anything past this one) in the Kings Quest series. This one was my favorite as a kid, so lets see how it holds up.
Now its time to delve into my second favorite game in the King's Quest series: The third one. Can it stand up to modern day scrutiny? Let's find out together!
This is the second part of a two part series dedicated to playing the final game (okay not really, but I don't care about anything past this one) in the Kings Quest series. In this part we will cover all the possible endings: Middle of the Road, Worst and finally Best.
In this episode of Rogue Presents, we take a good look at an RPG known a Gothic. While it didn't get a fair shake in the United States, it was actually quite popular in Europe.
