Sorry the audio is a bit out of sync with the video it seems... --- The motto of Momekh.com is "Khuda Karay Tujhay Teirey Maqaam Sey Aagah". This verse from Iqbal is very dear to me, as is much of his works. We are celebrating Iqbal today - 9 Nov - and it's a national holiday. Which is all fine and dandy. But I want to know what is the best way to "celebrate" someone. I try to arrive at an answer to that question in this video. --- I remember back when I was introduced to Iqbal's poetry. Of course, in school, we have read quite a few poems by Allama Iqbal. Never understood a word they said. Muhabbat mujhay unn jawaoN sey hai SitaroN mey jo daaltay haiN qamand. I didn't know what qamand meant. It's not a common Urdu word. I mean, Urdu was the main language we spoke. In school, at home, with friends. It's not that I grew up speaking English. But words like qamand was unknown to me. The Urdu teacher explaiend what qamad meant. And I was like, "Oh OK, that makes sense". I guess that is how we learn, right? We see something, it doesn't make any sense to us. We are about to completely forget about it, but then some "ustaad" explains a little concept, and something that was alien, immediately becomes familiar. Suddenly you find yourself enjoying it, using it in your mind to derive motivation. It literally expands your mind. And then I remember when I discovered the meaning of "Loh o Qalam". Kee Mohammad sey wafa tuu ney tau hum teirey hain Yei jahaan cheez hai kya, loh o qalam teirey hain In my mind, the above verses meant that if you are loyal to the Prophet PBUH, if you follow his commands in your life, then what to speak of this world, you will get the knowledge of it as well. I was wrong of course. I later discovered that loh o qalam meant the loh-e-mehfooz - the book of destiny so to speak - and you are given access to it with a pen to write your own destiny.
