Today I would like to show my truck camping box. This has the essentials needed for a 2-3 day trip, always stocked and ready to go at a moments notice. This kit also doubles as an emergency kit, providing the basics in case I need to be self reliant for a time.
For those building out a box and looking for the items shown in the video I will try and list as many below as possible. Some of the links below are affiliate links that provide a referral rate to me at no cost to you.

Modern vehicles are well equipped for slick road conditions and adverse weather with many having traction control, electric lockers, multi terrain modes and more but that is no substitute for being prepared and having tools with you for when you do get stuck.
While out camping this spring I got hung up in some snow. Getting stuck is part of being outdoors in the mountains. I figured I would use the opportunity to make a video showing a few simple tips and truths about getting unstuck by yourself.
If you are new to Four wheeling or outdoor recreation in remote locations, being prepared is definitely important. It can be the difference between making it home in one piece and not. A good recovery kit, a well stocked emergency kit and a good working knowledge of how to use your kit will serve you well.

A practical field review of a cold steel spike hawk. I modified this slightly trying to combine the best features of the other two hawks Ive reviewed/own. Although it turned out well, it does have some minor weight and balance quirks. The blade profile is also thicker changing the cutting characteristics, not in a bad way, just different. Hopefully the base value of this tool was not lost along the way. In my opinion the cold steel hawks I own, while not perfect are still a good tool, priced reasonably. A word of caution though, they can be slightly addicting !

A review of a crossbow I picked up for a little winter project. not perfect but good for someone not wanting to spend a lot of money for one. The crossbow itself seems pretty solid and shows room for potential. The two major issues needing attention right away are the string servings and the sights, they work but are very crude/cheap. The stock/riser and bow look like they are good and solid. This is one of the items I have been wanting to pick up for a later video series comparing basic bare-bones survival/shtf/zombie horde scenario, you know those conversations that start off if you could only have one weapon for X scenario what would it be. any way the last one I need to find is a black powder weapon...... anyway back to the video just a quick look at this popular crossbow sold on many web sites, and sold by many names. for about a hundred bucks you should be able to get shooting with a spare string, rail wax, upgraded bolts and the crossbow itself. Thanks for viewing !!

A video of how to make what I have put together as my tinder kit. I tested several different methods and tinder set ups, but I kind of accidently found this while working on another project. Jute twine coated with a mixture of pine pitch and charcoal. Very simple can be done at home or in the field, can be made for little or no cost and is almost completely waterproof.

This is an in filed Review of the Cold Steel Hudson Bay Tomahawk. I give my initial impressions of The latest offering from Cold Steel in their tomahawk line. This is not an in depth review, that will come later. I have had many people ask me what I thought of the new hawk and I have had it out on a few outings so I decided to give my thoughts.
The Short? I like it a lot. I will spend more time with it this season and see if my thoughts change. For now I am thinking this is my new favorite tomahawk from Cold Steel. Weight and function are spot on with the Pipe Hawk, but it has more of a beard for more utility and it also has a larger hammer face for better usability. The weight is nearly identical to the Pipe Hawk at 16.5 oz. There is also more contact between the head and handle for a more secure fitment.
The only down side I see is that the blade is very thin and has no swell in the cheek area. This will make if perform poorly at splitting larger rounds of firewood. Another minor thing is the price will be a little high as it is a new model and normally that tends to last a few months to a year.
Do you need a Kydex sheath for your Cold Steel tomahawk, fiskars X7 or CRKT Chogan? I am making them and they are available on ebay ( I hope to have a website but it will be a while). Here is my seller page link: https://www.ebay.com/usr/ratherbwheelin?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
I also occasionally make other items from Kydex as well and list them.

This video is a long overdue response to those asking how I sharpen my hawks/axes. This is intended for new to the hobby types that may not have all the equipment long time blade owners tend to have. Keep in mind this videos intent is to show the tools I used when I started it is not meant to be the end all in how to sharpen blades. This video is third in a three part series I intend to do demonstrating to new owners of hawks/axes how to set up there new blades for field use in a budget minded way. Part two will show stripping the factory finish off and prepping for decoration and new finish application. Video three will show how you can use common items to re-edge, sharpen and polish the blades, all the while keeping a budget conscious approach.

A trip intended to be 2 nights turns into one when things get a little damp..... I really debated on uploading this video, I dont normally take my camera on longer trips. Being new to hot tenting I thought it might be good to document my progress though so I decided to film what I could. I dont know that it has any entertainment value, but it will be a good reminder to me when considering gear for my next trip.
I had quite a few failures on this trip, broken saw, broken snowshoe, Sleep pad got a hole in it, waterproof gloves that weren't, no rain cap on stove pipe ( along with a few other things) . In the end I decided to pack up a day early and call it a learning experience.
Two Items that impressed and were invaluable were my Wetterlings Bushman axe, and my " Tot Box" from Pine Fire. Both were the heroes of the trip and stood the rigors of the extremely wet conditions better than I could have hoped.
My Silky saw on the other hand .... a great saw but if it is your only saw on a trip where you need to process down alot of wood I think a spare blade is a wise investment. My Thermarest Trail Light pad decided to stop holding air as well, something I have always been leery of, it will be replaced with a rigid camp pad I think.
